I have been living at a United Property Associates (UPA) property for three years and repeated attempts to get repairs done have been ignored or it takes them a long time to get them done. When they do complete them they do a patch job and whatever was fixed will need repairs again in a couple of months.
The property managers treat you like garbage and act like you shouldn't complain about your crappy apartment. I have been through six property managers since I've been here. One of which got fired for stealing from the company. The others have left because they get tired of tenant complaints. The property managers that try and do their job cannot because their supervisors dont allow for repairs that will cost the company "too much" money. The outside contractors they hire are literally crackheads. I had a painter ask me where I could get "some stuff" in Norfolk because he was from another one of the seven cities and didn't know where to get it. When I didn't have an answer he asked my neighbor. Seriously!?
My friend's truck was broken into and her GPS was stolen. BOTH my neighbor's cars were broken into. When the property manager and her supervisors were asked what they were going to do about it, as far as better lit parking lots or security, they had no answer. Everyone in my complex is African American and on low or fixed incomes so I guess UPA feels they can get away with what they're doing to people.
DO NOT RENT FROM UPA IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN OR ARE ELDERLY!!!!!!!!!!! There are birds living in my AC unit. There is mold in my apartment. There was a dead possom found in the attic. There was an infestation of fleas due to the stray cats that live on the property. My neighbor had termites. Another tenant had slugs living under his carpet.
There is no grace period. If you do not pay on the first your rent is late. I literally paid on the 2nd at 7AM and the property manager ran out the door to tell me my rent was late!!
Please do not rent from UPA. I'm moving out as soon as my lease is up!!!!! Anyone else with the same experience please feel free to contact me before I contact 10 on your side.

Disgusted Renter

I feel the comments from the renter above are absolutely correct. He's not talking about an association, he's talking about terrible treatment by a terrible company. I too have been renting from United for years, I haven't switched to another property because of the troubles of moving and higher rent. United has been nothing but troubling, unsympathetic and dishonest.
Every other renter I know, EVERYONE, has a grace period when it comes to paying rent. United uses this as a profit generator. Not everyone gets paid on the 1st of the month. United has never responded to mold complaints, never cleaned my carpet, never responded to theft complaints and I've been with them for years! 6 managers in 7 years!
I know I'm rattling things off the top of my head but I have so many complaints, I don't know where to start or where to stop. They're HORRIBLE. I wish it were easier to move because I will when I get the chance. Please don't rent from United, you'll be glad you didn't!

Association does nothing.

I do belong to the homeowner's association My 3rd notice for mildew has hardly been 30 days, Went out and bought a $350 powerwasher and spent 2 weekends washing the house. The next time you ride by, stop and point it out for me. Who is responsible for the park, it's up keep, trees over growing over the fence, the medal bars protruding up out of the cement where a trash can was mounted, tripping hazard, the basketball net needs replacing and the broken light in the commons area in the front of the sign River Creek, I have pictures. Why are we paying more than Old Mill Creek in yearly dues, and we are receiving far less in compensation. The $4000 lawn care we pay for a $1000 job is ridiculous, the grass growing in the gutters is deplorable; some belongs to some homeowners association while some does not. I was here when the first house was built, for $48 in yearly dues we received more benefits than the $260.00 we pay now.
I hope to spend the rest of this summer to disband this Homeowners Association. Has UPA filed an injunction against the church out front to make sure they build to some standards for our Homeowners Association that we have to live with when they are done, I would hate to see a metal shed built. We should have some signs put up for Residents Parking Only. I do believe a civic league would do a lot better job.#1 UPDATE Employee

The writer misunderstands the difference between a rental property and a homeowners association. His residence is in an association wherein decisions are made by the home owners' elected board of directors, and where most of the repairs within a residence are the responsibility of the owner, not the association and definitely not the management company. The writer is way out of line with his complaints, and incorrect on most items he listed.
