Ridiculous. Haven't rented anything from Hollywood Video in more than 3 years since they closed down. Never received a single notice from them about any outstanding late charges/fees. Then yesterday, more than 3 years since our last rental, we get a collections notice from scumbag collection agency Universal Fidelity, LP, claiming we owe $50 for two unreturned rentals. I look at my old credit card statements, and have proof we paid a late fee for said rentals in July 2009. $25. I call the collection agency, and they admit in one breath we returned the videos on July 2, 2009, but then in the same breath say we owe $25 each for the two "missing" videos. They claim the credit card charge I have on my statement "must be for something else at Hollywood." I remember this late charge clearly by the way, because it was the only late fee we ever had there, and it was large. Then I request that they send me proof of this balance, because we have NEVER heard anything from Hollywood Video, never received a single communication from them about these supposed fees. The woman says they don't have to provide it. I say it says on their letter that indeed they do. She says, "well, you can try, but our judgement department can say no." WTF? How is this s**t even legal?? If this isn't a scam, I don't know what is. Now I can look forward to a collection agency chasing us for fraudulent charges. Great. FU, Hollywood Video. You deserved to go out of business. And FU, Universal Fidelity, LP. What a bunch of liars and thieves you are.
