I was visited at my door by two young, high school or early college aged boys...or so I thought. They gave me an enthusiastic, slick speil about winning a trip to Cancun and that they were currently in first place beating some girls on their "team". They claimed that for them to win, they only needed me to look at a list of magazines and give them my preferences on a sheet of paper.

After telling them that I don't purchase magazines, they said it wasn't a sale, only listing preferences for which magazines I would read, if given the opportunity.

Before I realized what a scam this was, I had been talked into buying almost $200 worth of magazines. I had an uneasy, nagging feeling the whole time, so after they left, and some thought, I tried to cancel the subscriptions. Not so easily done.

This shady company makes it so difficult to cancel that I believe I may have lost my money. I can assure anyone reading this though...they will not do this to another person in Brunswick County, NC.

My first call will be to the local sherriff'f office, since I believe we have ordinances against door to door "sales". My second call will be to the local television station so that they may warn people in out area that this is going on. Perhaps when they try to call USA, they will get someone to answer the telephone during business hours!

If anyone comes to my door from this company again, I will simply ask them to leave and alert the authorites.

Hard to cancel?

AUTHOR: Merrill - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, April 09, 2007

How is it hard to cancel. You are given two yellow customer copy receipts at the time of the sale. The entire back of that receipt explains how to cancel you order properly. Our automated telephone system also gives cancellattion instructions. Our website gives cancellation instructions. All you have to do is drop the receipt in the mail. Yes this has to be done within 3 business days.

This is in compliance with the Federal Trade Commission regulations. See www.ftc.gov. Its called the cooling off rule and does not only apply to door to door or magazine sales. Secondly, unless there was a gun to your head WHY DID YOU GIVE THE AGENT YOUR MONEY!
