I took my first finals, Unfortunately, my computer crashed three days before finals so I had no notes to look back on to help me with the finals. I was four minutes late and I failed my Com 140 final because I handed it in late and Basic Com I received an A-.
Now they tell me that I need to re-take this course in order to get my Associates. So I said okay I understand, of course I am not going to argue the issue, I want to further my education to pursue a better career.

Now I am told, I need to pay out of-pocket expenses of 975.00 to pay to re-take a course, I do not understand if I took out a student loan how will this not cover this course how can they take my pell grant?

I wished i would have researched 1st too.

AUTHOR: Missyoudontknowwho - (U.S.A.)

I'm actually a student right now at the university of phoenix, I haven't even gotten pass two classes and that was my thought about this school even before I signed up. Right before my loan was disbursed to be exact 3 days b 4 , They dropped me from a class and said that I need to reschedul so that they can charge me to retake it. but they dropped me from it. Right now I have a credt of 2,000 dollars on my account and they is holding it to pay for classes that I'm not going to take. Anthing left over is a refund to the student but when they do resume classes Dec1,08 I'm withdrawing and they better send me my refund check or I'm contacting federal.

financial aid

AUTHOR: Jeanski - (U.S.A.)

You are getting somewhat incorrect information. Once you receive federal/state financial aid (whether loans or grants) the money should be deposited to your student account by the lender. Then your tuition and fees are deducted by the college and the remainder is YOURS. You should be able to request a refund. Now, if you fail a course, they're not going to take the money back. You've already paid for it. But the rules for most student loans and grants dictate that you must make "satisfactory academic progress". This is usually determined by a GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale), but UofP can tell you what their specific criteria are. If you repeat the course, you'll pay for it again in most cases. In your case, two three-semester hour courses with an A in one and an F in the other would result in a GPA of exactly 2.0 - which is considered passing by every college/university I know of.

#5 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Actually, they can, and will do that, because you agreed to it.

AUTHOR: Rachel - (U.S.A.)

Yes, I used to work for the University, and I know how things are ran there. They aren't always ran as they should be, and I'm not siding with them in any way. However, when you fill out your FAFSA for financial aid, you agree to the fact that you must pass your classes in order to keep recieving your financial aid. The government does NOT pay for failed courses. It doesn't matter what the reason for your assignment being late was, the government has their policies. They front you the money to go to school, and you fill out paperwork saying you are completely aware that if you fail, you pay for the course yourself because they take their money back. That's not an issue with the school, that's an issue with the government. The school has no control over that. And your PELL grant is awarded to you for school purposes to begin with. It's left on file for things like your books, and if you fail courses, the money comes from that. You should go back and read the documents that you e-signed with them. It clearly states it there.

#6 UPDATE Employee

retaking classes

AUTHOR: Scottsdalegirl - (U.S.A.)

I do not know the specifics of your file, but try this. Call your financial aid counselor explain why you failed the class and ask for a "AWTC" this is a form that you sign and it means that you must re-take the failed class and pass it. When you do, the school will not charge you for the first failed class.

Good Luck.

Financial Aid

AUTHOR: Ted - (U.S.A.)

If you remember when you completed your financial aid paperwork, there was a section that stated that financial aid wil not cover dropped or failed classes.

University of Pheonix Axia College not a Ripp off.

AUTHOR: Erika Cadena - (U.S.A.)

To begin to introduce myself, I 'am a student of the University of Pheonix and by my last two classes approaching for my Associates degree are just on my next upcoming classes this is NOT A SCAM. First of all responding to the response on Bonny, when you fail to meet your finals on the last day which is your (Day 7 on your week for your class. There is no make up for these classes and someone has to pay for them . You asked then what is your student loans for? They are towards your degree in only passing classes thats explained to you when you enter the enrollment process and even reminding you on your syllabus and also by your instructor. Federal fiancial aid dosen't cover failed classes and thats everywhere. Your grants are only awarded to your when you pass. I have only failed two classes with the first one even as a courtsey they did not charge me for LIVING PROOF OF IT! also my second class i failed was paid by me only because my funding was ceritfied before and they took some away from my pell grant. I have to say i'm sorry for your procrastenation and that you feel that was a good reason why to stop going they are very strict on their policy for late work. They have to be because for an accelerated program they must have their students meet certian criteria in order to be accredit for federal financial aid. Look it up in the axiafawpheonix.edu websit under terms and conditions for student policies. You'll find it there.

In conclusion those who think of furthering your career , do your research and as an online student , mother of two and a fulltime Leasing Agent i love it.
