I am very distraught about my experience with this school. When I originally visited the campus, a graduate student of UOP was my counselor. He was very courteous, but he deceived me. He guaranteed me that I would get the full Pell as well as the maximum loan amount. He even told me that I would have excess funds left over, and it would be disbursed to me within 2 weeks. He kept emphasizing how important it was to at least make the first two classes. Now I know why. After the second class, a student of UOP is responsible for the full amount of the class. Anyway, after my second class (which was convenient for them) I found out that I wasn't in fact getting the maximum student loan as well as the full Pell grant. I didn't even get enough to cover my first four classes. The financial aid manager tried to urge me to apply for private loans to cover the amount that was short on my account, but that didn't work out for me. I've decided to finish out that class and withdraw afterwards. Weeks later, I get a bill from the school for over $300.00 bucks and now it is in collections because I haven't been able to pay it.

There is an excellent reason Tim....

"Go to the ripoffreport on any other large corporation and you'll find a tiny fraction of the complaints you see here. There's a good reason for this....."

It is probably because people like you and I fuel the fire:)

Do the reverse research and see how many students are satisifed with this school--it is the largest private University in the U.S. Free market and all.

Now lets think about what that means for a minute...hmmm, perhaps that means a greater number of complaints? No, that couldn't be true!

Your argument is faulty, however I will buy the poster's argument since there genuinely seems to be misinformation here. My advice for the next school: cover your backside by reading what your signing and having the money to pay the loans back so that they don't go into collections.

Now for me, I'm awaiting some witty comment about how the consumer is wrong or how people should just roll over and pretend nothing has happened...

It's great you are having a good experience at the UOP, but not sure I understand you're logic. I don't think people here believe there are no happy UOP students, or that many have succeeded with a UOP diploma. We're here, in great numbers, because we feel ripped off by this school, and want to tell others.

The original poster said her sales rep misled her. You are saying this is ok, as long as the fine print provided her has all the necessary financial aid disclosures? So its ok to mislead students?

Are we discussing higher education or selling used cars?

If you would read my report, you would see that I never said I was a graduate student. Read before you reply!

Thank you Jane.

A student response

AUTHOR: Claire - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 13, 2007

I have been a student of the University of Phoenix for three years and have never had one issue that questions their integrity, honesty and willingness to assist their current and potential students to perform their best work in class.

We cannot expect the 'corporation' to be fully balanced in these matters. Any other attitude is simply one of ignorance - and believe me, I have been on that end more than once.

I am not in any way saying that your statements are questionable, simply that I have experienced nothing like the problems you have.

However, one important point to note that may be pertinent to your complaint...I am a cash paying student (and I am a struggling one too). Perhaps I am treated as such!

Good luck to you, and the best of luck with your future.

It is funny how you to told the original poster to READ when you did not even show HER that same respect!
She did not say that SHE was a grad student but that the person that she talked to was! So she in fact WAS eligiable for the pell grant!
Geez!

read your paperwork

AUTHOR: M - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 13, 2007

If you would have read any of your paperwork you would have realized that graduate students and never eligible for the Pell Grant. Educate yourself first. The FAFSA webpage displays all rights and regulations of financial aid. You signed the document that stated you read and understood your rights. Did you skip over the part that stated that?

That's right folks, get those new students in the door. What's that, the student isn't qualified? She won't be able to pay for the classes? She is wondering if those CC credits will transfer? Whatever!

Tell her to make the first few classes and she'll be drowning in financial aid and when she graduates she'll be making a fortune! Hell, tell her a leprechaun will leave gold under her pillow. Who gives a S@#T! Just her to sign on the line! And while you're at it, see if you can sell her the "rust-proof undercoating", he he he...
