Our story is probably more common than even we believe. For all of our married lives, we have patronized Von's Markets and written thousands of dollars in checks over 27 years. Now we are being asked to pay over $130 in principal and late fees for two bounced checks totalling $63.26 that would have cleared, had Von's Markets simply redeposited the two checks. I am sending them simply the principal amount on both checks with no NSF fees and collection costs. If they want any more, they will have to sue me.
For all of you consumers who make the same mistake once in a blue moon, don't send TELECHECK any fees or collection charges that accrue. Simply send the principal amounts if Von's only deposits your checks one time--and issue a stop payment on the checks with your financial institution to prevent processing electronic bank checks against your account for their "total amount due".
Use your ATM cards only to pay bills or use online payment services to render TELECHECK'S power useless against the paper check.
If everyone simply got mad as hell and stood up against this organization, they would change their ways because they don't have the wherewithall to prosecute millions of people for their so called "charges".
Don't get me wrong--if a check doesn't clear after two times, then even I agree the collection agency is due their money. But it is uncalled for to allow this organization to harass and rip off honest consumers who make a mistake once or twice over long periods of time and not even allow two tries for the checks to clear.
