In February 2014, I was searching for a used vehicle. I've seen Van Horn commercials on tv, so I decided to look there. The salesman seemed nice and spoke about their vehicles compared to other car dealers. I financed a van with 3 year payments.

In June, the vehicle failed the emissions test. I had it looked at by a mechanic. According to him, it needed the catalytic converter and spark plugs replaced. Upon further inspection, he found another part that needs replacing. Due to an oil and coolant leak by the engine, he refused to perform the necessary repairs. He also stated that these repairs would cost a substantial amount.

I immediately called Van Horn. For a week, i left voice messages and sent emails to several people. After there was no attempt to return contact with me, i called and demanded to speak with someone about my situation. I was connected with the finance manager.

The finance manager was not professional at all.  He spoke to me with belittling and condescending language. He suggested that 1. I had the inability to read the vehicle warranty, 2. I was the cause for the vehicle's damage (after only 4 months of driving), and 3. The mechanic i took the vehicle to was "a friend on the street".  After an argument ensued, he connected me with the service manager. I was then set up with an appointment for a repair inspection.

Their inspection finding was the same as my mechanic's. And of course, the warranty doesn't cover any of the repairs! I can't afford the money it's going to cost to make the repairs. My plates are suspended because of the failed emissions. I still have 2 1/2 years left on the 3 year payments for a vehicle that i can't drive. Also, having 2 infants makes the transportation situation worse.

Van Horn is bad news. I am completely dissatisfied and repulsed with their service. I will not be a return customer and suggest other buyers to go elsewhere.

Your vehicle purchase at Van Horn

I am sorry to hear that you have had an issue with your vehicle. When it comes to our vehicels we do requirre all our vehicles to go through a 120 point inspection of the vehicle to make sure it passes to meet all the Wisconsin state laws.

However though we are requirred to make sure that the vehicle does have  the emission equiment the dealership inspection does not ensure the vehicle will pass state emision test where required.

When it come to what is covered under warranity unfortuanitly  that is out of our control as we use an outside warranity company so they are the one that dirtact to us what is covered and what is not. The is just out of our control as to what they feel is or is not.

As well what happened with the finance manager that is something I will make sure is personaly addressed and talked about talking to all in a professional matter. I am sorry that was not handle proper and that somewher the ball as dropped and we will make sure thats addressed.
