I was enticed by Vector Marketing's promise of $12/hour. It seemed like a good idea, so I went to an "interview" in a nearby city.

There were over 20 other people there. We were seated in a specific order in a room the size of a closet. The director gave us a presentation and asked us to take notes. Later we had to complete a quiz on the history of the company and its practices. What sort of interview was this?

Then, to save time, the President, or someone spoke with groups of two people in private. We found out that we were so lucky to get the job. However, there was extensive unpaid training to attend.

I was weary of this, especially when the man asked me to skip my own high school graduation to attend the training. The methods of brainwashing used on this company nearly convinced me.

My mother researched the company, and she found nothing but negative reports from former employees. This company is associated with the Better Business Beurau, but should not be. They take money from poor college students and do not live up to their promises of $12/hour.

Not A Very Effective Response...

I just felt compelled to respond to the itemized "list" of excuses as to why so many people are unsuccessful at Vector, and I have to say, whereas I do not know too terribly much about Vector, it is not helping your cause much to call most of the complaints stemming from "lazy college kids".  Afterall, YOU HIRED THEM.  This is at the very least poor management infrastructure on a grandiose scale.  You can reel off a list of reasons to justify all the turn over your company experiences, but the fact remains....you have OVER SIX PAGES of complaints on RipOffReport alone.  This is not a group of individuals that simply did not understand the job requirements, that at least could be understood.  This seems more indicative of manipulating young job seekers into thinking they are going to have a reputable sales job. Once again, six pages of complaints is an undeniable pattern.  I have made the mistake of going on an interview like this before, and the first flag should be raised when the person you are interviewing tries to sell YOU on the position.  Needless to say, interviewing in groups is also a sign of a pretty sketchy business model.  I should add that this article is not to blatantly bash Vector, and I am not saying that it might not be a fit for someone out there.  In this present economy, people can't afford to waste time on job's (or job interviews) that try to "pawn" themselves off as something their not.  People are interested in paying their bills, mortgages, child expenses, etc.  If Vector was a little more upfront with what they are all about, I don't think they would be met with such hostility.  What can I say? It never works out when you mess with someone's time and money....

All of these negative reports from uneducated individuals is really starting to annoy me. I used to work as an employee of cutco and it was the best working experience I've ever had. I made over $1,400 a month by following their guidelines. The rules and process to success is clearly made out. Anyone who writes Cutco off as a scam has no idea what they're talking about.

My experience with Vector Marketing

A while back I noticed an ad in the newspaper "Base pay 15.50". Wow, I think so I call the number listed and schedule an interview. A few days later I enter the place and right from the start I saw red flags. The office was decrepit, it looked as if no one had cleaned for years, there were scratches and marks everywhere but I stayed. After about waiting close to half an hour, I was eventually asked to come to the back room. Another decrepit, marked-up room that looked more like a lame conference place than an office, again I decided to stay. It struck me as odd that the man was talking more than me, at first he told me about the company Cutco, knives, etc. but then it's like hew was trying to brainwash me. He spent almost an hour giving his speech about the company and how good it is. And I pretty much nodded with whatever he said but as soon as I left I realized how it was just idiotic bulls***. After this so-called "interview", I learned I got the job. Yah! And I got all the documentation and as i read over it later on in the day I realized, I was just selling knives. There was no instruction or anything just the 70 bucks I would have to spend to get the starter kit. I'm glad I didn't fall for that crap would have been nothing but a waste of time.

I have one question idf this product is so great how com ethey don't sell it in stores? The answer becuase Cutco couldn't keep up with other knife companies so they went direct with it, they realized they could keep the bottom line by making money off people whp thought they were employees but aren't really. 60 years of experience. Yep, lots of experience scamming people.

 The fact of the matter is that anyone who considers Cutco a scam, simply hasn't done their homework or are just plain lazy. The "scam" reports are made by people who:


A. Don't understand the structure of the company


B. Don't follow the simple program, the company lays out for you, to be successful


C. Don't follow the guidelines of being an employee (aka not turning in orders, not turning them in on time and then claiming it's a scam because they aren't paid for orders that weren't turned in properly or were turned in late)


D. Don't understand why a deposit would be required in order to be given several hundreds worth of knives


E. Don't understand, or follow, the proper procedure to return their knives and receive a full refund


F. Don't put in the necessary effort in to do the job. It's not an easy job, but if done properly can be rather successful


Cutco and Vector operate a little differently than many brick and mortar retail operations, but that does not, in any way, make them a scam! They are a direct selling organization, just like Mary Kay, Lia Sophia or Tupperware, which takes them in a different direction. If managed properly, with the right attitude and motivation, this can be a very successful self owned business.


The fact of the matter is that the majority of the complaints come from lazy college kids, just looking for an easy hand out, with little or no effort. If that is the case for those reading this, this is not the company for you. If, on the other hand, you are looking to be surrounded by positive, upbeat people who have a real drive for success and only want success for you AND you are willing to work for it, this may be a good fit.


Cutco has 60 years of experience behind them, with tens of thousands of satisfied customer. They have a structured program that works, if you follow it. That kind of track record isn't just a flash in the pan, fly by night organization. You should know what's really involved before just brushing them off, as some BS operation, because those claims are typically made by people who simply didn't put the effort in, or aren't willing to, are disgruntled employees by their own actions, and therefore don't really have any merit. If someone sleeps on the job or doesn't show up for no good reason and is fired, do we say the company is a scam? NO, the same kind of reasoning applies here.


I am a Cutco Representative. It's not an easy venture but it certainly is worth the effort. The people you will meet along the way, the stories you will hear about other people's success, are utterly amazing. If you too, have what it takes you be one of those success stories, then go for it, you have so little to loose and so much to gain.
