Verizon not only charges you for the new connection if you move, they charge you for placing the order. We moved and kept our same Verizon account, both phone and DSL service. The move was about 5 miles. Verizon charged us $23 for "turning on" our service at the new address - B.S., but a relic of the days when the phone company had to send a technician out to connect actual wires. But, they also charged us ANOTHER $23 for placing the order - the order to change addresses with the same service. This is a charge for absolutely nothing. The equivalent would be if the ice-cream man charged you $2 for an ice cream cone, and then another $1.50 for the transaction. I already called the public utilities commission, but this is not something that they regulate. I called Verizons customer service and the PUC connected me with Verizons corporate office - nothing. Verizon makes money from this - money for nothing.
