Beware. Whatever you do, if you are considering about enrolling at Virginia College, Please take my advice and STAY AWAY. This school is just one Money Hungry School and does not care about you or your EDUCATION. I enrolled in this school back in 2008 and have successfully completed my Associates Degree in AOM.
I then continued in order to obtain a Bacherlors Degree in Criminal Justice just to find out when Im only 24 credits away from obtaining my degree is that my funding ran out..WHAT>> Where is it.
From my undersatnding, my academmic advisor informed me that I had enough funding to complete the Degree. Some-one there pockets are sitting real FAT. Keep Reading because its going to get better for your beneficiary but worse for me.
So....My advisor told me that I will have to pay out of pocket, which is $385.00 per credit hour, in which it takes 4 credits per class. So that will actually be $1540. every term out of pocket. I dont have that kind of money. So I asked my academic advisor do I have enough credits to obtain another Assocites Degree.
I know right. But its better than getting nothing. So she said yes, but only if I took one more class. Ok..I agreed. I agreed to pay the $1540 out of pocket so that I could obtain my assocites degree. At the beggining of the term upon login, I see that I have two classes inside my homepage. I immediately called my advisor and informed her.
Her exact words were to ot worry about that extra class and that to just focus on the completed the needed class in order to obtain my Degree. I'm still pissed because I than waisted all of my time/money here with this school and did not accomplish nearly what I came for. So just going along, I successfully completed the class.
Now today July 11, 2013, I receive something in the mail from Virginia College. Guess what it is?
Guess what it is? You will not beleive it.. A check in the amount of $20,000.
I know right.
Im just kidding. It's a bill in the amount of $2,641.00. Im looking like what. I immediately called into the financial plan office to inform them of the inaccurancy. The lady were very understanding. She was able to pull up that they actually overcharged me $1100.00. Bu guess what.
she told me that she can't do anything about it and that I had to pay due to the fact it was not an error on their end.. That Really Sucks.
Please Stay AWAY FROM VIRGINIA COLLEGE (online)

Privately held colleges

Most if not all of privately held colleges are out there to make profit. If you go in there, you will be told anything about how it is affordable, easy, etc., to get a degree from them. The so call "education couselors" there are either know nothing about the school's intent or ignore the fact that students will pay more later.
Everyone who is qualified for pell grant (http://www2.ed.gov/programs/fpg/index.html and http://studentaid.ed.gov/about/announcements/recent-changes for more info) will NOT be told in detail of the grant. Also, there is a limit of financial aid (http://studentaid.ed.gov/types/loans/subsidized-unsubsidized#is-there-a-time-limit) but not sure whether the limitation has changed recently.
The way a for-profit school is doing today is to lure students and make them believe that they will get enough funding from government through out the school. They completely omit or ignore the fact that the fund has limits too. So they will charge students as much as they can and the students' fund will run out before they graduate. Because students have already gone so far into their system, students would feel obligate to either pay-and-finish or lose all the investment.
For those who are looking to go to school, please go to a community college. This type of school is A LOT CHEAPER and it is accredited for most (if not all) colleges in the same state (or near by). Privately held colleges are expensive (as much as or more expensive than a 4-year college) and may not be accredit to other colleges.
