Signed a 5 year contract.  Had numerous technical problems and of course you can't cancel early unless you pay remainder of contract.  Fine but....

We patiently waited the 5 years.  It did not occur to me to regularly check the contract to see that I needed a 30 day written notice of cancellation.  In addition, I received two calls in the last couple of months from reps. who were making service calls because my contract was almost up.  When I told them both that I wanted to cancel neither of reminded me to send the 30 day written notice.  Shady practices!

I called 10 days too late.  I was already automatically signed up for an additional year.

They will NOT, no if's and's or but's work with me on this.   I offered to pay an extra month and send the letter.  No go.  I was told by two different people that the contract is completely legal (which I knew) and that they absolutely would not cancel.  They told me it was fine that I report to BBB and tell my neighbors with Vivint about this problem.

Appearently Cancelation Notice Doesn't Mean Anything to Vivint either.

AUTHOR: victim - (United States of America)

I like you had a five year contract with APX/Vivint. Thankfully a year ago I had a salesman over the phone try to get me to switch my service to his company. So I started to take a good look at my contract, and started to research on the internet about Vivint and their deceitful practices.

A couple of common themes stood out and were in all complaints about folks trying to cancel this service.

First is we people do not read what we are signing up for, and second we take bad advise and expect results and always end up with more confusion and less money. We hear what we want to hear and take for granted the practices that reputable companies practice, are practiced by every company. Well we learned that is not the case with Vivint.

After 5 years with Vivint the only good thing i can say about them is their hardware ie. door sensors, glass break, and main panel are good quality, but then again those are made by Honeywell. So at least someone was smart enough to go with Honeywell. After that its downhill.

Lets start with the cancellation process. Contract calls for 30 prior notice of cancellation before auto renew takes effect. Done I sent notification almost 60 days in advance with return receipt from the post office. One would think that this would send up a flag at Vivint that I am cancelling and close the account. I have been invoiced the next two months after the contract expired. After receiving the first extra invoice I sent them another letter return receipt via the post office and they still invoiced me another month, and it gets even better.

The other day i get a phone call from vivint she wondered what i was gonna do about the balance on my account. I informed her I dont have an account with Vivint. I dont know why I am capitalizing their name, I surely dont want to give them that honor. She started to read the auto renew clause in the contract, so I let her finish. When she did I said "so what is your problem." She acted like she had no knowledge of the notice I sent, then she admitted they had the notice that I sent. She knew it along. Then she wanted to transfer me to someone else so I could get the account closed. I said "that was your problem and if I were you I wouldn't make your problem my problem." If they want to hold folks to the contract I am gonna hold them to the contract. One poor individual was 2 days late with his notice of cancellation and they stuck him for another year. The contract says nothing about going through an exit interview so they could try to sell me something else.

I will keep you posted on what happens so when your next year is up you will know what your in for.

Do not take their advise they give you over the phone they are the enemy you wouldn't ask your enemy what to do next would you. One legal expert told me the next time I enter into a contract with an auto renew clause not to and if I have to the best thing to do after signing the contract and after 3 days or no obligation period on the contract go ahead and send the notice of cancellation. Even though you have 10 or eleven months left on the year go ahead and send the notice registered mail return receipt. You'll need your proof.
