I've signed up for Vonage phone service on March 29, 2008 for the service plan of 24.99$ a month for unlimited nationwide calling plan plus the Vonage modem i needed for the use of the service which was 9.99$. On my first month i was charged 35$. And it just kept getting higher up to 40$. Since then i have been having trouble using the service. Either the device wasn't working well. Had help form their customer service taking mostly up to an hour listening to a machine talk to me on how to troubleshoot the problem. Device wasn't working well with my either 2 of my new routers. Till I was fed up with the quality coming from an incoming call. Or a complain with another person on the other side of the line. I called on July 28 of this same year to cancel my service. I was with them for about an hour and they just kept advertising me with other services. i told them just to continue with my cancelation. They advised me not to cancel my account yet. Because i still had their modem device and i was going to be charged 79.99$ for the device plus a cancelation fee of 39.99$. So what they told me to do is to keep my account on hold until i return their device to avoid being charged for it, and was given a case number and was told to ask for a confirmation number after cancelation. Since the 28th of july my account have been on hold. Next month bill was 40$ on july 29. i went to the ups on a tuesday because it was friday night already. And i think monday was a holiday. So i returned their device to the address i was given from Vonage And was told to wait a couple of days for them to receive it. I was out of town for about a month or more. Decided to give them the call again. I called on September 26, 2008. To finally terminate my service with them. This time i was on for half an hour trying to speak to them to cancel my service. I have asked them on why was i still being charged 40$ after i have put my account on hold to avoid being charged for the use of the service. They told me that the service was still on hold but calls still being received through the account. i have told them that i have sent them back their modem as i was told. They told me that they cannot authorize that or make a customer on returning after their 30 return policy. And yet again they kept advertising me. And i told them i just wanted to cancel and that's it. They were charging me a total of 113$. That's for the cancelation and the Vonage modem which i did not have. They were rude to me that i did not understand anything. And i told them i cannot pay for something i don't have and have not used. And they told me that they will give me 4 months free i stay with them. I did not want such thing until how they treated me. I argued with them on why i was told to return their device and had to pay the shipping & handling 10$. And that they have not received the device. It's been more than 2 months since i have sent it. i have my UPS receipt. And knowing how their bad service is to the costumer since the previous calls. And World Wide youtube videos. i did not want to be dealing with this. They hung up on me. I tried to call a couple of times to reach them again. So i just said ill give them a call back because i had to leave town. I checked my E-mail and had my request of canceling my service with them and that they were sorry for losing my. And the total amount due was 113$ being charged to my bank account without any authorization or any confirmation from me to accept the charges.
