I had seen through Walmarts advertising that certain medications were less expensive. I went to walmart at approx. 6:00pm and transfered my prescription. The Pharmacist told me 20 minutes and it would be ready. I decided to shop, after all thats why the meds are cheap, so you will shop while you wait. I came back at 7:10pm to find they were closed.
These meds are for Diabetes, Blood pressure control, thyroid and Choloesterol. There was no sign at drop off stating what time they closed, so I assumed they closed when the store closed.
What I am angry at is that the whole time shopping, the store made several particular announcements over the PA system introducing products, etc. and this Pharmacist never bothered to page me that he was closing. If It was so close to closing time at drop off, then he could have, should have told me to stand by or that he was closing soon. If this had been an individual, elderly or not, that was waiting for heart medicine, this could have been fatal. I notified right away store management, but there was nothing they could do.
I believe that this was an uncaring, unprofessional Pharmacist who really should be in another field and not allowed to dispense medicines. As it is i was scared missing my medicines overnight and my numbers were extremely high the next day.
The next day I went to pick up my meds only to find that the Pharmacist was out to lunch for an hour. I waited and they finally showed up late 15 minutes. Then I find that they did not have all my meds and what they did have they filled the prescription wrong. I was not alone in my anger as others wating had other ordeals with the.
If Walmart does not respond to my corporate letter, they have lost a customer. By the by, I went to Kmart who understood my problem, discounted the meds and filled my prescition in 15 minutes.

Lack of customer service? I work retail and I certainly do not warn customers of the closing time an hour in advance. Especially when the closing time is clearly posted. The pharmacist gave the OP a wait time of 20 minutes. How on Earth was he supposed to know that the OP would come back 70 minutes later, over THREE TIMES as long as he was told? Had he come back on time the pharmacy still would have been open another 40 minutes. (Wow! Look at that, the OP could have filled 2 MORE prescriptions in the remaining time! ;-) ) Once again it is not at all uncommon for customers to come back the next day for their scripts. I am curious as to why people think this should have struck the pharmacist as unusual enough to get on the PA system about it.
What it comes down to is that the OP is the epitome irresonsibility. He did not even wait until the night BEFORE he needed his "life threatening" meds (which would have been irresposible enough), he waited until THE SAME NIGHT that he needed them. I can't believe anyone could have so much lack of concern for the wellbeing of their own body. His excuse? "I didnt read the sign in front of me. Its their fault. They didnt warn me." Pathetic. Have a little bit of dignity; consider your own mistake as a lesson learned.

What happened to the OP's personal responsiblity? It is one thing to wait at the counter and have them lose it in front of that person, but this person choose to shop and NOT return for 80 minutes, one HOUR and TEN minutes later. It is MY responsiblity to go to my Dr before I would run out of meds and to get my scripts mailed in time knowing it may take 7 days to get them back to me.
It was their responsiblity to tell them AHEAD of time , "I need this tonite, so when do you close"? One question takes all of two minutes and Walmart has hundreds of scripts left for days! How are they to know the OP needed it that evening? Come on, take some responsiblity. Do you blame others if your bills are late, well I know some of you do here, but you should have enough SENSE to ask what time do you close so I will be here before you do. Many pharmacies stop making scripts an hour before and it is up to the OP to find out what the rules are and to abide by them!
ps. If you do not like Walmarts pharamcy there are others to choose from. Personally I choose not too, but that is MY choice. Make yours.

This the way Walmart goes. They lost my wifes prespcriptions Daibetic among others. had the audacity to try and blame me. Then realized that I was right and tried to pass it off with out any aplogy. I don't go to Walmart any more than I have to at any point in time.
So I sympathize with you. the Pharmacist or one of the people working behind the counter should have let you know that they would be closing at a certain time. It's called customer service. Taking care of that person as though he or she was you or a beloved family member. Not a number or a dollar sign. To say it was this person fault is not right.
It's Walmarts. For a lack of customer service. and for potentailly putting this persons life in jeopardy.

First of all, yes. Some people's prescriptions/insurance companies require the patient to wait so long a period before a prescription can be refilled, however, it is not the SAME DAY the prescription runs out! It is usually a few days prior. Again, like many people have said, it is not the pharmacists fault that you waited until your prescription was completely OUT to refill it! Maybe next time you'll go sooner. Also, what if the pharmacy would have been out of the medicine you need? Couldn't this happen at ANY pharmacy? Again, maybe something you should think about before waiting until the last minute for something that you claim is life threatening. Furthermore, why should they call YOU over the PA system before the pharmacy closes? Do you have any idea how many peoples refills remain in the pharmacy overnight everynight? Should they call all of them, too? If you would have dropped off your prescription closer to closing time I would agree they should have warned you, but you came an HOUR BEFORE closing, and came back an HOUR AND TEN MINUTES LATER! It is no ones fault but your own. No rip off, just carelessness.

Dealing With The Public

Went back to wal-mart to check on their posted hours. They have the pharmacy's posted hours in large numbers for everyone to see. If the OP didn't see them, that's his fault. They also have two signs indicating that the pharmacist will be at lunch between such and such an hour. The pharmacist told the OP his script would be ready in 20 minutes. The OP came back and hour and 10 minutes later. Would would have the pharmacist wait around for an hour or 2 hours or all night waiting? I deal with the public all the time. They call me at 5:25 and tell me they're on their way even though they know I close at 5:30. I tell them I'll be more then glad to wait UNTIL 6:00 pm for them. One time I dropped a customer's Christmas gift off at his hotel at 11:30 on Christmas Eve, so don't tell me about customer service. Sometimes they show, sometimes they don't. I do like the OP's comment about losing a customer. Evidently he had never been there before. If he had, he would have known the hours and about the lunch break. He went there for the $4 a month scripts. There is such a thing as dealing with the public and having the public take advantage of you.

When one chooses to work in the health care industry, there is a certain amount of responsibility that goes with the position held. If I'm a pharmacist who really cares about the well being of my customers, I would most definitely "NOT" close my window without making a serious effort on contacting a customer that we were closing for the evening. If this was your mother or father standing there looking at steel curtain, you'd be whistling a different tune. I've been a pharm. tech for many years and have had the pleasure of working with many RPH's and not one of them I know would have acted in that fashion. You ask who's to blame? Do you know that these elderly folks can't refill their scripts prior to a certain date and the system can and does screw up, so don't be to quick to jump to conclusions without knowing how the system works. To the individual who wrote the initial complaint, I apologize for the the pharmacist in question.

How can you complain about a company closing a dept without first notifying you. You made an assumption, you said it yourself. Your assumption was wrong, you should have looked for the pharmacy hours. He told you 20 minutes and you came back 1 hour and 10 minutes later. They have so many customers and its not his job to page everyone who has not picked up medication. I am sorry you had to go without the medication you needed so much. But to me it would seem if this was so important to you, you would have checked the hours or went back in 20 minutes. You are like all the people who would rather place the blame on someone else then look at yourself and say I messed up. Did the pharmacist know you were out of this, did he know you had no more at home and deathly needed this tonight. No, he didn't. Please stop crying about what people didn't do for you, and think about the convenience you are offered by being able to transfer your medication to the place you are grocery shopping at. Go to K-Mart, they would do the same thing, had the same circumstances unfolded at the store you would be crying about them now. Your lack of attention is not his or her fault.

Is it wal-mart's fault you let your supply of meds get done to zero where you had to get them refilled THAT day or be placed in a life threatening situation? The hours of operation are clearly posted. Is it walmart's fault you didn't look. The pharmacist told you 20 minutes. You came back an hour and ten minutes later. Is that walmart's fault too? You arrived during the pharmacist's lunch hour, which is also clearly posted. Is that walmart's fault also? You went to buy your meds there because they have cheaper prices then most other places. I guess that's walmart's fault. I guarantee they're gonna miss all those $4 a month scrips of yours.
