WAMU Sucks! Wow, to go from a bank that was famous for 'Free Checking' to Chase Manhattan that now charges for every little thing.
Washington Mutual switch to Chase Bank has hurt WAMU customers including ones they've had for years and years. The banks typical client might not have millions in their bank accounts, but a customer is a customer.
WAMU will be losing clients left and right as they discover extra fees along with switching from 'Free' accounts to 'Monthly Service Fee' accounts without notifying the consumer. WAMU customers beware and monitor your statements, $4.00 here, $3.00 there adds up.
Chase Bank will be losing individual and business accounts at an alarming rate, especially the ones gained through the WAMU acquisition. WAMU and Chase Bank have become great examples of the shadiness that is American Banking.
Consumers beware of WAMU Bank, Washington Mutual, Chase Bank, Chase Manhattan. Ripoff!

What Type of Account?

Have you asked anybody at Chase about it?
Because I had accounts that I keep fairly low balances with WaMu that got switched over to Chase. Before the switch I wasn't charged any fees, after the switch I haven't been charged any fees. So by you going into a branch and asking if there is another account type you can get, they might have one that would be free for you.
