As a stay at home mom and online college student I thought West was the answer to my prayers!! Boy was I fooled. More like a nightmare! To start with at no time in the application process or testing do they mention the word, "UPSELL". It is only when you are "accepted" as a contractor and you are 2 or more hours into their 8 hour training that you realize, "Wait a minute, I thought I was doing Customer Service and just taking orders over the phone?". It's then that they sneak that bit of info into your brain, like it's going to slip by you.

You are expected to say everything in the script EXACTLY as it says, VERBATUM according to the training. Then it's 2 "no's and go". You are actually instructed to harrass the customer which is scripted in a way that anyone would get confused answering the question and end up with a $39.95 charge on their credit card that the person would actually have to think about to figure out where it's from. Unethical to say the least. Then, you are lucky to get even 10 hours a week, and mostly at 2am to 4:30am. They underpay most of the time and you don't get paid for the training like it says you will or "brainwashing" as I refer to it, or ALL of your time that you sit there waiting, talking and logging the call. The system they use is not very user friendly at all. So on top of learning all their RULES, you have to learn all the computer screens and such. All of which you do without getting paid. And if you do not do exactly as they say, you are fired! How do you fire a Contractor??

Morally, I just could not do it for more than 1 night. This company is a complete cult atmosphere, and is absolutely a HUGE SCAM. BEWARE WAHA!

NOT A SCAM

AUTHOR: Adrienne Wright - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, May 15, 2015

I've worked for West, not Alorica since 2011. I work both DIR and ESG lines. I've had no issues. With the ESG line, I make commission for every product I sell. I am NOT a salesperson...In face, by day I am a computer programmer.  All the information was there when you applied!!! Selling is Customer Service.

The biggest PRO for this company is that you are NOT an independant contractor. So they take the taxes out of your check.

It's not a bad company

AUTHOR: Mz Brenda - ()

POSTED: Thursday, October 17, 2013

I've worked for West since 2007 and I have to say, it's not a bad company.  The lady in the first report doesn't seem to have worked anywhere before.  I've only had a couple of payroll issues over the years and on my last assignment, there wasn't enough work hours.  The good thing is I was able to move on to a new assignment where there is plenty of hours.  I have a small business and this allows me to work around my business hours, to supplement my income until my business can pay me a salary.  I work when I want to.  I was home making $12 a hr on Christmas day, with my housecoat on, how sweet was that!  Some people are whinners and would have a hard time working for anyone.  My pay is in my bank account every other Friday like clock work.  They service clients and the client's product.  I've worked for a few clients that I ended the assignment because I didn't like the product or how they serviced people, but it wasn't West, it was the client's process.  Overall, you can work at home and not have to pay for gas, wardrobe, you can do things at home when you're not on a call, it works for me!

NOT a ripoff

AUTHOR: Huntress - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, December 20, 2012

I started with WEST in 2008 with Direct Response which is what the original complainer was working. I didn't like it and resigned the skill but stayed with the company until offered another skill which I love.  The original complainer didn't pay attention to what they read, and you can't learn it all in one day on the job. The company is legitimate and I support my family with the income.  Just because you have no reading comprehention doesn't mean you should bash a company. Anyone considering employment with WEST should go for it, especially if you're a salesperson. There are many skills other than DR that doens't require as much selling.

Statements not true

AUTHOR: TLSHEA - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, September 20, 2012

I am an employee with the company & worked with them first in 1994 & have been with them again for a year now & plan to stay. It is an excellent company to work for, so I don't know how you could feel it is a scam. You don't have to pay any money to work for them, you only pay for your background investigation. & the position you are referring to is Direct Response, & you are told about upsells during the application process, because it asks if you have ever done any & if you are comfortable with selling. I started out doing Direct Response, I think alot of people are because of the flexibility of the hours because that position is 24 hours. & also the website states that there are some positions that pay by the hour & some by the minute. This is one that does pay by the minute of TALK time. I did it for a couple of months & resigned from the position because I wanted to do something else. Direct Response is not for everyone & selling was not for me. As an employee you are told that you can resign from a position so that you can get offered training for another instead of resigning from the company altogether. They work with hundreds of companies, so they have several positions to offer. & the pay varies with each position as with any job. Training is paid at the rate of minimum wage for your state. & since December I have been in a position that I really like. It only took 2 weeks to get offered another. & the pay is reasonable for not having to commute. I currently make $9 a hour, & that is whether I am talking on a call or not. As long as I am signed in for my scheduled shift I am being paid $9 a hour. I do no selling, just customer service. There are thousands of agents that have worked for the company for many years & love it. I enjoy what I do & the company I work for. Not many get the opportunity to work from home for a legitimate company. Training is excellent, pay is sufficient, & I am an employee not an independent contractor, so taxes are deducted for me. I would & have recommended the company to anyone looking to work from home. This person is one that did not read all of the information during the application process, nor after being hired, did not read the employee manual. & did not read the job description & the employee FAQS page. It says exactly what I said above about the position & training.

WEST IS THE WORST LEGAL SCAM THERE IS

AUTHOR: Joshica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 08, 2008

I am a CURRENT WAH Employee with West, and it is true, west is legit and all, in the sense of how they pay, but West is a legal scam artist. West condones every horrid retchid product on the market. I almost think they go out LOOKING for the dirtiest products to sell. Lipozene is being sued and they are still selling it. West does not care at all about their employees, they only care about their benefactors. West sells their employees for pennies on the dollar, and they think up ways of how can they get more for less. Employees at WEST need to WAKE UP, when they went down to .15 a minute, and call volume started to decline, but West does what it does because they feed off the fact that people need to work to take care of their families and little is better than nothing.

West messes up employees checks every payday, and has a legal excuse to do everything they do. I have had so many disputes with WEST over pay alone it is not even funny, and by the time you get through back and forth, you are too tired to care. Their systems that you work out of suck horribly, but I think they keep it that way b/c if the system keeping track of you being logged in they get a good excuse to say you cant get paid, but of course, they got your work. So many times have we complained about their systems being down and got nothing but the same scripted answer, only to be messed around out of hundreds of dollars.

West is about never saying their sorry, but always telling you how sorry you are. They take pride on giving us millions of feedback all the time, and when you do something they dont like, like tell the truth and say a product is NOT going to be here in 2-3 business days, more like 2-3 weeks, they are swift to punish, but they have a very lackluster way of saying thanks for being a great employee. There is only two ways to feel about West, you either love them, or hate them, and I have yet to meet someone that loves them. I am appreciative to have been given the opportunity to work from home, but as the years have gone by, I see now, that West was a foot stone, and those are meant to only get you to the next level, b/c standing on one hurts after staying there too long. I definetly feel that I've overstayed my welcome with WEST.

Hours are scarce, it feels like we are treated like dogs having bones thrown us when hours are put on. They dont put hours out at at any particular time, so we sit there and sit there and stalk for hours and it never fails the moment you walk away, they post, and you cant even get a 40 hour work week. They use the excuse that the "companies" determine the hours. Pals sound like scripted robots, and its apparent to everyone BUT them, they have no clue what they are talking about. I find it funny that pals are even called pals because many of them are less than friendly, and that could partially be due to them having the same horrible work environment as we do, only they pay gas to get there and we dont.

Bottom line, West needs to shape up. West needs to care about the very employees they are stepping on to become a "great" company. West needs to put hours out at a certain time each week, and if they don't have the authority to do that, they need to at least put it in the contracts to make sure that those who do have the authority do that themselves. They need to take care of those who were Independant Contractors, many of us worked for pennies when there was no call volume at all M-Thursday, and now many of us no longer can even work for them. They need to stop hiring if they cant even accomodate the people they have now. West needs to better train those who help us rather than give us scripted information, I promise, you never get the same answer the pals on the same question twice. I cant even begin to say what are all the things West needs to do to improve, but I hope people see that they are worth way more than West, and find other jobs that appreciate them. For those who are "stuck" at West until they find something else, keep doin' what you do, I have much respect and sympathy for you, but get out fast, because I foress West going down really soon. West, you need to care about your crumbling empire, because you cant treat people this way forever.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

West at Home seems like a legitimate Company to me.

AUTHOR: Waldroop - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 02, 2008

They have various jobs, the one I trained for was for processing orders from TV ads. It involved reading a script verbatim, upselling and APO's. They do also have customer service jobs, it depends on their needs at the time. Although I decided the job was not for me, i think their are people that would not mind doing it. Unlike the person that filed the adverse report, I was hired as an employee. I received paid training at minimum wage. When you are an employee you get either minimum wage or talk minutes, whichever is greater. As far as performing the actual job, I can not comment on that, because after going through training, I decided the job was not for me. So although the job was different than what I expected, I can not complain, because I got paid for training and decided not to take the job.
