WMConnect, Wal-Mart, Compuserve ripoof, fraudulent billing practices, Internet

We cancelled our WMConnect service in Feb 2004. We were consequently billed for Mar 2004. We called to tell them we had cancelled. They said, "oops, sorry! We can't take that charge off." Fine, we decided to accept that.

We were done with them, cancelled 2x. Now here it is July and lo and behold, we have another charge from WMConnect on our cc bill!!! We just called, got straight through to a rep and we were told (I swear!!!!!!!!) "We can't cancel your account, your account is still open. You still have time on your account. Thank you and goodbye!" YES THEY HUNG UP ON US.

I then ran a search on the BBB's website for WMConnect and came up with this:

This company has an unsatisfactory record with the bureau. As of 6/22/2004 the Bureau has processed 1398 complaints over the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of those 359 were closed in 2004. Complaints concerned Selling Practices, Advertising Issues, Service Issues, Credit or Billing Disputes, Delivery Issues, Refund Practices( normally the company will only refund a maximum of two months), Product Quality, Contract Disputes, Guarantee or Warranty Issues, and Repair Issues. Some concern difficulty with cancellation of service, company changing plans resulting in higher charges than user wanted. The company has been responsive to the majority of complaints, explaining their terms of service, however some customers remained dissatisfied. Some complaints remain unanswered. The company's size, volume of business and number of transactions may have a bearing on the number of complaints received by the BBB. The complaints filed against a company may not be as important as the type of complaints, and how the company has handled them.

We are now filing a formal complaint against WMConnect with the BBB and contacting our lawyer about these fraudulent charges.
