I signed up with with iFriends in February 07 for a supposedly free account. On entering the site looking for adult chat, I found that the site was all pay for play.

I logged off and didn't use the account again. Then I noticed my credit account being billed for increasing amounts.

First for $1.32 then $7.91 then $8.72. I have contacted iFriends on 0011-800-4374-3637 (Australian contact number) and canceled the account. I will also contact my bank and let them know that I challenge these payments.

The iFriends phone rep
said that by not using or canceling the "free account" I had implicitly "agreed" to sign up for a VIP account! She said that this was clearly stated when I signed up! What load of crap! I should have Googled them first then I would have found this site and the dozens of pages of complaints regarding these unprincipled deceptive ripoff merchants. $17.95 is a cheap lesson but add all the people they have scammed in this way and thats a lot of money for no return.

After becoming aware of the above RipOffReport complaint, we were able to locate Bevan's account with iFriends. When he created the account, in February of this year, he affirmatively chose to enroll in the upgraded iFriends Elite membership when he created his account. The regular iFriends membership is free, but the upgraded Elite membership that Bevan accessed carries a monthly charge. This charge was clearly and conspicuously disclosed in advance, and Bevan participated in numerous click-throughs to indicate his acknowledgement and consent to the monthly charge.

Shortly before posting his complaint, Bevan contacted our Customer Care Department to ask about the account and the charges that he was seeing on his credit card. The Customer Care representative explained that Bevan had chosen to upgrade to the Elite membership, and reviewed with Bevan the benefits of this membership. Bevan requested that the account be cancelled, which was done immediately. Further, per Bevan's request, the Customer Care representative blocked all of Bevan's personal information from ever being used on the site again. Had Bevan requested a refund, it would have been promptly processed.

It is clear from Bevan's report that his interaction with our Customer Care Department did not resolve his complaint. We sincerely apologize that he was not satisfied with the iFriends experience, and that the issue was not resolved when he called us. At this time, we have refunded all of the charges which were billed to him. Depending on the particular policies of his bank, Bevan should see the refunds post to his account by the next billing cycle. If he has any questions or concerns, we encourage him to contact us directly at 0011-800-4374-3637, which is a toll-free call from Australia. Our Customer Care Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
