What sort of bank creates a situation in which you should not deposit cash you wish to spend? As far as I know just Wachovia. After 4pm, a cash deposit in an ATM (a service intended to be convenient) might as well be reflected in your account as monopoly money. Last night I deposited $50 into my account through an ATM around 6PM. I checked my balance which read $50.67. So even though that was reflected in my account, it wasnt ok to use my ATM card until the money was cleared. WTF? How the f*** is my CASH not OK to spend after I put it into the account. So now I have a $70 insufficient funds charge which is now to be followed by two other charges. What I should have done was kept my cash and not let Wachovia turn it into monopoly money. Why would a bank create a situation in which you shouldnt put your cash in an account? I am closing my account and hopefully when refinancing the mortgage will change lenders away from wells fargo

A "tricky" situation...

Correct, there are signs in the bank that tell you when deposits will post.
However, Your balance as you stated "read" $50.67, and "technically" the bank did have possession of the cash anyhow so you did nothing with intent as far as trying to steal from the bank or borrow anything and the bank perhaps could have been a little forgiving. Sure the bank does not owe you any favors..but there was a time when the banks actually cared about their customers..now they only care about their bonuses..and the worry of failing again and not getting any more bailouts.
You asked..."Why would a bank create a situation in which you shouldnt put your cash in an account?"...
The answer is the bank didn't create a situation where you shouldn't put cash into your account...they created a situation where IF you put cash into your account and then spend it too soon..they collect fees. Simple obvious answer. And we all know how the banks love fees..well honestly it seems to be their only profit center these days so of course they "encourage" situations where a simple human mistake will permit them to nail you to the wall with fees and fleece your next paycheck.
Regardless...a rule to live by..NEVER EVER EVER unless a loaded gun is to your SKULL deposit cash into an ATM. I have read reports here and elsewhere of "mistakes" being made and the bank "lost" all or part of the deposit. And has previously stated..there is no proof of how much you deposited no matter what you say, or what the receipt says. If depositing cash or anything..smartest move is use a human teller and triple check the receipt before you leave.

You want to deposit cash?? Keep the cash and use that instead of your debit card therefore you would not have nsf charges - good grief!! It just amazes me that someone cannot manage their own finances but blames it on the bank
Keep a check register!!! Stop using your debit card like it was a credit card and learn to manage your money!!
Good luck - you will have the same problem at any bank you chose for you know nothing about basic math

Maybe it also has something to do with someone needing to actually physically see the money and verify its real before they let the account have it.
Anyway, why would you put perfectly good usable spendable cash INTO your account?!? JUST GO SPEND IT... cripes...
Silly, ATM deposits from all banks are pending until a person reviews them the next day.
For all a bank knows you only put $5 in the envelope and accidently told the ATM you were depositing $50.
Never rely on ATM balances. I deposited a $10.00 rebate check at my bank yesterday. The reciept said I had almost $3000 in my account. I knew better because I paid bills the day before. My balance without the $10 check was really $93.82.
