We purchased a 32" Vizio LCD TV and protection plan in February 2009.  A few months ago a blue line appeared down the middle of the screen. We called the 800 number as indicated on the service plan.  They sent a box to ship the TV to them.  We shipped it on Feb. 23, 2011 and never heard anything.

We checked the website on March 10th and it showed that it had been returned on March 9th and then updated to not paid; whatever that means. We had to call on March 14th to find out where our TV was because it was not shipped back.  We were told that it could not be fixed and they would send a reimbursement check. We were aggravated that we were not given any other options. We told them we did not want a reimbursement check and that it was to be replaced with another tv.

We were told by our Walmart store the protection plan would repair or replace our tv if something were to go wrong with it. Today (March 15th) they called and we told them that we wanted our tv back if they could not fix it or replace it and we were told that if it had not been recycled, they would see what they could do.

Recycled?? We didn't authorize our tv to be recycled. Just because we sent our tv in for repair didn't mean we gave up ownership of it.  As far as I am concerned, we still own it and the fact they recycled it without our permission is theft. We don't want a reimbursement check. We want another 32" Vizio LCD TV to replace the one that doesn't work. Not a used one, not a refurbished one, a NEW one with a service plan.

WTF?

AUTHOR: David - (United States of America)

I do not understand the point of this ripoff report? What are you complaining about, exactly? They've already paid the shipping to receive your broken TV. The TV is defective. It is not worth it to the manufacturer, or wal-mart to repair it. You are receiving a check totaling what you paid for the TV. Walk into your local Wal-Mart, and BUY ANOTHER ONE! The prices have probably even come down such that you can get a BETTER TV for the same money.

They are actually saving your time and energy. As it is easier, and faster to mail you a check, than it is a new TV. You also now have the option to choose another brand, rather than  be stuck with the same model which may or may not fail in the same way.

If I were in your exact situation, I would be happy, and satisfied with the outcome.

Failure to read and understand warranty.

AUTHOR: Steve - (USA)

First of all, as soon as you send them that TV at their expense for warranty work, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of said warranty. All you have to do is read it.

They have the option in the warranty to repair, replace, or buy out that set.

And, if they replace the set, or buy it out, your warranty terminates.

If you get a replacement tv under the warranty, you must buy another warranty if you want coverage. [Also clearly spelled out in the warranty paperwork].

Learn how to read.

No rip off here.

re:theft

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

I understood perfectly fine that they sent your television off the recycling. Here's the kicker: its not your tv anymore. Walmart is honoring their agreement with you and sending you a check for the television. Its their property now. You don't get to return goods, get a refund, and keep the broken merchandise. The agreement you had with them said they would either send you a TV or a check back if the unit was unrepairable. It doesn't say you get a check and the tv. No rip off here, they have fulfilled the warranty to the letter of the agreement. Good luck procecuting them for theft. If I were them, I would send you back the broken tv and no check, since you seem more interested in it than the check.

Amazing..

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

It is amazing how stores can never seem to get it right.  There are many reports of people who complain that they are not honoring their warranty.  Yet when we get a report where they actually honored the warranty..people still complain.

Seriously, your TV was not working and you sent it in under warranty.  They could not repair it so they are sending you a check for the price you paid for the TV.  What exactly is the RipOff?  It sounds like they are doing exactly what the warranty terms state.   No where in the warranty does it say that you are entitled to a NEW TV.  Although by them sending you a check, you can use that check to buy a new TV.

What exactly would you do if they sent the TV back?  Other than a very expensive paperweight not sure what use it would have.

Of course if even after you take a step back and look at the situation.  If you still think it is theft then go down to your local police station and file a police report.  When you do I really hope you post what they tell you when you tell them that your TV was stolen.

Wrong Answer

AUTHOR: Lee_CU - (United States of America)

You really should read the WHOLE message. We state clearly that they have sent our television to the recycle WITHOUT permission. So are you going to tell me that Wal-Mart is now authorized to steal from consumers? I do not think so, go back and please read the story again.

Have A Nice Day

reread your warranty

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

Your warranty does not entitle you to a new television. Walmart's service plans state that "we will replace it with a product of equal or similar features and functionality equal to the current market value of the product, not to exceed the original purchase price of the product. Replacement products may be new or rebuilt to meet the manufacturer's specifications of the original product at our discretion."

It goes on to state: "the total liability under this plan is the purchase price you paid for the product; in the event that the total of all authorized repairs exceeds the purchase price paid"

Basically, if its going tp cost more to fix your tv that it is worth they wont fix it. And they reserve the right to issue you a check for the purchase price of the product. No rip off here, your warranty has been honored as written
