I bought a new vacuum. Well, I thought I did. I took the vacuum home to my mother as a surprise. What a surprise, the vacuum was an old Hoover all dirty with a dirty bag full of dirt!

I immediately called the store about 1 hour after I left the store and 5 minutes after the discovery.

They told me I am SOL. The employee told me they will not do anything for me at all. The employee also said it is common for people to bring back returns and put in something else inside the package. The policy is to open everything when returns come in, but many times the boxes are not reopened.

How can this company let me get ripped off? This cost me about $200 that I borrowed. I will not let this go Wal-Mart. My family does all their shopping with you. Bastards!

Wal-Mart has a very liberal refund policy. *EDitor's Comment

Wal-Mart unfair rip-off, check your sealed boxes. (#6188)

Rebuttal:
Wal-Mart has a very liberal refund policy. Probably the most liberal refund policy in existence. There is an understanding that there will be fraud, but it is a small consideration compared to legitimate refunds.

The most common scam is to replace what you've purchased with something of equal weight and then refund it in the sealed box. It is common for customers top purchase say, a new microwave and then come back in the next day with a 10 year old microwave in the new box and say, "golly, look what was in my box!" So they are suspect about every thing returned.

Wal-Mart does not have shrink wrappers in the store. Returns like yours are returned to the vendor, not the shelves. I don't know what to tell you. It's a pickle, I'm not sure I can side with you on this one.

I would suggest a letter to the president. The forms are kept at the service desk.

EDitor's Comment:::::::::::::::

Fraud Chick,

Let me educate you a little here. I've been around the block a few times and screwed every which way possible over the years. If I did not experience the screwing personally, I know about it through others who have.

It's very possible the consumer filing this Rip-off Report is telling the truth. How can this be? Any half-witted-dirt-bag can leave the store with a sealed box and return it with a box of rocks. Here's how.
.............................
**Turn the box upside down.
**Carefully slit open the clear tape holding the box together at the bottom.
**Remove the item. (i.e. the microwave)
**Replace a load of junk weighing the same as the item you just removed.
**Take the same exact size clear tape, and very carefully place it over the original tape, making sure the new tape lines up exactly with the old tape.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::

SUGGESTION: When any store takes back a return, they need to inspect the box very carefully..
Here are some precautions a store could take.

1.. If the customer is returning a closed box (completely sealed), weigh the return item to see if the weight matches exactly with one in the store.
If it matches, take back the box. A good standard policy would be to open ALL returns that come back. No exceptions!

2.. If there is a dispute, and the consumer brings back a ten year old microwave, the store could offer an investigation. The store would request finger prints from the person that is returning the item. If the item in the box has the persons finger prints on the returned item, not just on top but in other areas, you know they are lying and have committed a crime. The store could make them sign a document holding them responsible for all the costs if their finger prints are all over the item. The store could also run a check on the finger prints found on the item. Any prosecution would also depend on the city and state laws where the store is located.

The synairo in this Rip-off Report is more common than you think. As a matter of fact, there are many other victims of this scam reported on the Rip-off Report. There are Rip-off Reports on Circuit City, claiming they, Circuit City, take back returned merchandise, re-seal the items like I explained above, and then they sell the returned items as new.

Rebuttal:

I also hate that after standing in long check out lines then make you wait and one person has to check everything off your recept. No other quality stores do that. That's why I only buy there about onec every 3 or 4 years. Yes I always check everything in the car before driving away to see if it looks like it's all there. I like Target better.
