On January 4th 2011 I had two prescriptions filled at Walgreens in Show Low Arizona. These prescriptions were for 30 tablets of Tamsulosin 0.4MG and 30 tablets of Finasteride 5MG. I was charged $186.98 for these generic drugs. When checking out I questioned the amount I was charged and was told this is Walgreens "CASH" price and there was not a lower price.
When I left Walgreens with my prescriptions I felt I had been screwed for generic drugs so I went across the street to Wal Mart to obtain a price quote on the same two identical prescriptions. The quote from (((competitor's name redacted))) was $87.72 for both prescriptions.
I left (((redacted))) and went back to Walgreens question why I was charged $99 more than (((redacted))) and I was told by the Pharmacy Manager that (((redacted))) was selling these two drugs as "Lost Leader" and there was nothing Walgreens could do about matching (((redacted))). I don't believe (((redacted))) is in the business of loosing money.
I you are having a prescription filled or refilled get a quote from (((competitor's name redacted))) before ordering.
sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company, ..plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome. Have you looked into the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens? Not all drugs are covered, but many are offered at reduced prices.
I can't speak for the pricing structure at the competitor you listed, but it is not uncommon for some of the "big" stores to sell prescriptions at a loss, since it is such a small slice of their business. Although sometimes I can save money with the competitor you listed, I also have to wait an extremely long time and do not feel that my interaction with the pharmacist is customized to my situation.
When I fill at Walgreens, I am usually able to drop off my prescription, walk around the store for 15 minutes, and I receive a text message when it is ready. Then the Walgreens pharmacist (who knows me by name) is able to give me a customized consultation based on my medication history. I may save a couple of dollars switching to someone else, but I'd prefer the speedy and thorough service I get through my Walgreens.

Experienced same thing with Walgreens

I used to get my generic prescription for my blood pressure medication at Walgreens and it cost around $30 for a one month supply. I've visited several competitor's stores since then and I only pay $10 for it now... magically. I had no choice but to have it filled at Walgreens again recently and I had to pay $30 for it again. Why is this? Does anyone have a legitimate answer?
