My daughter recieved a $Walmart Visa Money Card with $100 on it for her 3 yr old Christmas present from her grandparents. We put this away and were planning on using it closer to summer when she was a little older and when she would appreciate getting a gift a bit more.. That said we forgot about it until the following Christmas when we were going through Christmas cards, addresses etc..
We went to Walmart to use the card and found out it had expired in November. We asked how we could get a new card since they had taken the money and we hadn't gotten anything in return. We were told to call the number on the card, which we did.. HOWEVER you can not speak with anyone unless you have a valid card.
We ended up speaking with a Walmart manager who told us once the card expires the money is gone and nothing could be done!
THIS IS THEFT!!!!! $100 was spent on the card, it was not used. Walmart just decited to confinsate the money, because we didn't use it right away! What difference does it make how long it takes us to use the money. They were given the money upfront which they put into there bank account and collected interest on...
DO NOT PURCHASE!

To me it is a rip off because it is somewhat a debit card (with real cash in it) and it should not be expired. If anyone ever think about buying this card for a gift card, DO NOT because the recipient loses the value of real cash. Buy a real GIFT CARD instead!

On the top left it says Walmart
On the bottom left it says Valued Customer
On the bottom right it says Debit and under that it says Visa
Is there a number I which I can get through to speak with someone if you are willing to work on resolving this issue? The customer service number listed on the card will not let me talk to anyone because I have to have a valid card number. It tells me to call back later when I have a valid number. The number is invalid because the card expired.

This agreement does indeed include a 43 monthly service fee with the first charged 10 days after card is purchased. However, this card also has to be activated before being used. When purchased it's a temporary card that is activated by phone or internet and a permanent card issued. From the agreement:19. Termination; Suspension; Expiration. Your Card will expire on the expiration date on the Card. We may reissue the Card when it expires, for no additional fee, and will generally send you a replacement Card if you have a balance remaining on the expired Card we will transfer the funds from the expired Card to your replacement Card and the funds will be available on your replacement Card after activation. At any time, we may suspend your Card and your ability to use your Card, for any reason allowed by law, such as if we suspect possible fraud or suspicious activity, if you have breached your responsibilities under this Agreement, or for security reasons. We also may terminate your Card and your use of the Card at any time and for any reason. Upon suspension, termination or expiration, we may stop accepting reloads to the Card and/or transactions with the Card. If we terminate your Card or it expires and we do not provide a substitute or replacement Card, we will return to you any funds remaining on the Card unless we are prohibited by law from doing so. You remain responsible for any use of your Card even after the Card is terminated or expires. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to pay attorneys fees and collection costs we incur in collecting amounts you owe us and enforcing our rights under this Agreement." So it sounds like what happened was the grandparents purchased a moneycard (temporary) which is good for 1 year. Since it was never activated to initiate the issuance of the personalized card it expired causing the funds on it to be held.
Talk to the grandparents to see if they still have the receipt. it'll have information that should enable them to get a new card with the $100 (minus $3 monthly service fee) on it. My further suggestion is to make sure gift cards are purchased in the future so you don't have to worry about the activation. Hope this helps you out.

As I had mentioned we had recieved it as a Christmas present so we got it at Christmas time.
We went to use it 12 months later and were told it's was expired.
These cards are available at the counter of every Walmart in the country.
They are Visa Gift Cards so they can be used anywhere that excepts Visa.
They are not rechargable!
Many people purchase these cards as gift cards so that the reciever is not limited to a specific store to purchase from.
There is no mention of a $3 per month service charge anywhere on the card. There is also no mention of a $3 per month service charge anywhere on there website.
The manager of the Walmart store showed me that it states on there website the card expires 12 months after purchase and once expired it is not renewable for any reason!
That's theft!
Even if what you say was true with a $3 per month service charge, There still would have been $64 on the account after 12 months.. This card came up expired.
Perhaps your parents need to make sure the type of card they are getting. Most Pre-Paid Debit Cards(one's with a VISA/MC logo) will have some sort off monthly fee.
