A year ago, I took my car to get the oil changed at the Gardendale Walmart. They told me that upon routine inspection, my tread was dangerously low and that I needed to replace my front two tires; they even made me sign a piece of paper stating that they told me. I did not have the money at the moment to do so, but explained that I got paid at the end of the week, so they gave me a quote for $60 tires. When I went back, they were "understaffed and lots of cars in front of you", so I took it to the Forestdale Walmart, literally the next town over. The manager there explained that the quote I received was for tires that couldn't even be put on my car. She let me have the next cheapest tires ($80 a piece) but didn't charge labor fees. I continued to go to the Gardendale Walmart over the past year for oil changes and even an entire inspection because I was taking a very long road trip and needed to make sure my car would make the trip. (I also had to buy new back tires at that time b/c they were so warped that they would've blown at any minute- I had bought them from Walmart also.)
Yesterday, I got an amazing flat tire. No sign. I just parked my car, and it felt like I parked in a big ditch. My neighbor graduated with a degree in cars and mechanics, so he offered to help us fix the flat. The hole was located on the INSIDE of the tire and was so big that he could stick his finger in it. As soon as he took the tire off, he told me what the problem was: alignment. He explained that the alignment was so bad that it looked like I was riding an "A" shape. It had literally worn down and ripped open the inside of a year-old, pretty much brand-new tire.
Now, I'm not making excuses...but I am a 19-year-old female. I don't even know what alignment is, nor that it's something that needed to be done when you changed your tires. Not to mention the fact that it can lead to problems much worse than a ripped open tire. Not once, when I got my tires or got my oil changed, did anyone ever mention anything about alignment, whether they did it or did not do it and I needed to get it done elsewhere. NEVER.
So I called my regular Walmart (Gardendale) and explained the situation. The manager was polite and explained that they did not do alignment, and that if I bring my car in the next day, they would help me out and do whatever they could.
Today, I realized that Forestdale Walmart did my tires, so I called them to voice the same complaint and tell them I would be coming there, but the manager was very rude. She told me that their warranty does not cover mis-alignment damages. I told her that I understood, but no one ever said anything ABOUT alignment for me to even know that I needed to look at the warranty. So I concluded with her that I would bring the old tire and they could deduct the price from the new tire, just like they normally do. "No ma'am, your warranty does not cover mis-alignment damages." So I asked her if I had to come in and buy brand new tires for the SECOND time this year. She told me yes and started to tell me to have a nice day, but I hung up on her.
Not once in the years I have been getting my tires at Walmart had anyone ever uttered the word "alignment." How can you not be held responsible for something you NEVER told your customers?
I am going today, in person, to get my new tire. This is ridiculous.
I will not take my car to ANY Walmart Tire & Lube Express ever again.
