I personally should have ran like a dog chasing a cat during orientation but I gave them the benefit of doubt.
They make everything sound wonderful so you sign on and start working for them. I signed on as a intermodal driver and was NOT making any money. The hub was based in St. Louis, MO and I lived 2 hours north of there. So I requested to move to OTR. This in turn ticked off the wonder idiot dispatcher who is a supposed ex-truck driver his name is RON. The only thing I can figure out is that he must have drove a paper route on his banana seat bike, cause he had NO CLUE what it is like out on the road! If you don't kiss his royal a** at the beginning you are NOT going to get anywhere with him. He will give you LOW miles not to mention have you call in repeatedly cause they have apparent nothing for you to haul at the time. You could spend all day on the phone and this is what you will hear "Call back in and hour"! This goes on all day long.
They put you on a so called "dedicated" route only to lose the contract with the company and then you are put on this as needed basis. You could be used to driving 2500+ miles a week down to 1000 and bring home a big whopping $200 to $300 a week. They give you "HOT" loads to go down south with that needed to be there yesterday. You ask them is they have a back haul and they lie to you and tell you yet and you sit for 3 days waiting for a load only to be paid $100 for the 3 days you sat there. Then once they do get you the back haul you have to drive 2 states away to get it telling you it is ready when you get there only to sit and wait for it again. OR you have to watch the load boards in truck stops for them, so now it becomes your responsibility not theirs to get you out.
The midnight dispatch John! Oh god where to start with this one! If you call in that you are empty and need a load out. He tells you to call back in the morning there is nothing available. So why the need for a night dispatcher is far beyond my comprehension! Other then he is to fat to work anywhere else and no one else is stupid enough to hire him! When in fact the loads are being held back for the brown nosing a**holes that are the henchman's favorites and they go to them not the person sitting there with an empty truck ready to roll!
They hire new dispatchers that have no experience in trucking not to mention geography and when you call them on your location IE: your in Southern Arkansas they want you to drive clear to Iowa to pick up a load? Here is a tip for the dispatchers! GET A MAP!
They tell you they have safety bonus at the end of the year. Well god forbid that you pull onto a weigh scale and you get nailed an over weight ticket on their sh**! When where you pulled it out of has no scales to scale out your load and the next stop is a weigh station! Cause you get that ticket there goes your safety bonus! You get a flat tire and it blows to shreds you pay for it! Literally you pay for it out of your check!
OH, to mention payroll! Try having $200/$300 taken out of your check and they not be able to provide proof as to where it went. They tell you it is com-data checks that you cashed when in fact you didnt! NO one can give you a straight answer ANYWHERE IN THIS COMPANY!
Safety Department OMG what a joke! The KINGS head henchman is William (Tom) Berry! This idiot is a TRIP! Can anyone say bi-polar, AD/HD, ADD, HDD, schizophrenic????? If you have an issue you take it to William! William will take DAYS upon DAYS to get back to you with anything not to mention is the KING of all LIARS on the planet! Ever heard the words HELL is waiting? Guess what William will be the first in LINE!
Have a non-preventable fender bender, no tickets issued, not reportable to DOT, no injuries, neither vehicle towed and he tells you that it is a NON-PREVENTABLE and has been put on your DAC report as such only to quit the job and he gets pi**ed and changes your DAC report to a PREVENTABLE accident and you call him on it and he tells you he never got an accident report from the state of Indiana. Well hello dipsh*t, I called the Indiana State Police and was told that is was a NON-PREVENTABLE and that he never requested one! It required William to get off his lazy a** and reach into the company funds and PAY for one! I got the report myself! Then me, unaware that William had changed it on the DAC report I applied with a different company only to be called and told that there was an accident on my DAC report. I have drove over a million accident free miles but not now thanks to this so called "Safety Coordinator!
Once quitting this job and filing for unemployment due to decrease in pay, miles, and such there was a hearing. First off William didn't respond and file the appeal till after the date it was supposed to have been filed, claiming that he does not get his mail from the mail room for approx 7 to 10 days after they receive it. WHAT mail room! IT comes into the front desk and you have to walk 50ft down the hall to get it! Then he lies to the judge telling them that I refused to take loads because they didn't fit my expectations of the company and that I called off repeatedly during the last few months I worked there. However, the fact is that I didn't call off was told by the BRAINLESS WONDERS in dispatch that they had nothing!! So the appeal went back to Walts causing me to have to payback the unemployment after receiving it for 5 months!
In the last year that I worked for him I lost over $10,000 compared to the year before per my taxes. Not to mention I went to file for public aid and was told that the 6 months previous to quitting this god forsaken company that I could have been drawing public aid! My case worker checked back to the year before and compared them. She said that there was no way that I could have drawn public aid the year before but I certainly could the year in question. She didn't know how I was doing without it all this time while working for Walts!
SO DRIVERS EVERYWHERE! PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND RUN LIKE THE WIND IF WALTS DRIVE AWAY OF EVANSVILLE, IN WANTS TO HIRE YOU!
