How can a company deny receiving a payment when we received the certified signature card back in the mail?? Every six months our payments get lost because the company changes addresses...One time they even pulled two payments from our checking account causing an OD and many headaches with other companies...once, we have had to make double payments because we couldn't find the payment receipts, NOT ANYMORE...the last incidence takes place in May 2007.

Our payment was mailed on May 18th to WAMU PO Box 3200 Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53201...It arrived in Milwaukee on 5/20/2007 at 23:21...at 23:22 it is addressed as undeliverable as addressed and forwarded to Jacksonville, Fl. Arrived WAMU PO Box 41275 Jacksonville, FL at 06:20 on 5/29/2007...a "Sedrick McCary" stamped a signature and printed name on the certified mail return card and it was mailed back to our address and received on 6/1/2007!

On June 1st, we spoke to "Myra"...she told us to fax a copy of all receipts that we have to her so she could open an internal investigation...at about 11:30 am our bank faxed 2 papers with the purchase receipts, money order receipt, certified mail receipt, signed certified signature copy, and copy of postal trace to 1.818.775.2591 "ATTN: Myra".

On June 2nd, beginning at 8:30 in the morning the first of 4 phone calls began...the first call was answered, verified all the junk they asked then was asked if we could make May's payment?? No, don't really care to make another payment, and explained the situation...I was told that I needed to have it traced even further to see who actually CASHED the money order, okay. The post office tells me for another $5.00 they can do that...no way am I paying another dime for their mistakes, I am already paying an extra $5.25 to send it certified and have a signed card as proof.

I go through the same thing on June 3rd 3 times, June 4th 9 times, June 5th 7 times, June 6th 5 times and today, June 7th twice so far. On the 6th, I was told that Jacksonville was not a payment office and that it was probably being forwarded to Phoenix, AZ, okay...whatever! My husband was told less than an hour later that ANY office could accept payment and make the posting of that payment!!

Now on the 7th, "Tamika" proceeds to tell me that if we are not willing to trace it and see who cashed the payment and get a tracking number for them to use...now mind you they have a copy of EVERYTHING that I have-why can't they just trace it for their own selves...that there was nothing more that they could do to help us, she said that because we were refusing to "help" them, they COULD proceed with further action.

In order to prevent that, I could make another payment by phone and they would post within 10 days and that if by chance the other payment showed up, they would post it as well and we would be ahead of the game!! NO WAY NO HOW...I will just continue to make my monthly payments as planned and figure out a way for them to eat all the late fees due to their error.

I also asked them to take us off of the auto dial thing and to PLEASE quit calling 6 to 10 times a day...was told that according to their records we are late for May and until it is paid, we will receive calls every two hours!!! I do believe that is phone harrassment and may check into legally having it STOPPED!! Until then I guess I will just deal with it...

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Washington Mutual Mortgage Rip Off Late Fees

AUTHOR: Dorcas - (U.S.A.)

I had the exact same problem you have, this is what I did to solve the problem.

First go to their website and find the nearest Washington Mutual Bank near your home or office.

Second every time you need to pay your mortgage go to that Washington Mutual Bank with your money order and payment coupon and directly pay your mortgage in person.

Third WAMU will give you a directly printed receipt stating they received your mortgage payment and how much you paid.

It had got so bad with Washington Mutual mortgage for my home, I just opened a personal bank account at the WAMU close to my home. Now every month when my mortgage is due I just deposit that paycheck to cover the mortgage and then I pay the mortgage with a check from the same account at that moment. Then I know the check cleared without any confusion and I get an immediate receipt that the mortgage was paid.

Please note if you do get a checking account with them Please Please what ever you do don't write any checks on the account, with a checking account I get FREE MONEY ORDERS, so I pay all of my bills with MONEY ORDERS, no bounce check fees. Because if they can find a way to make you bounce a check so they can charge you a $27.00 fee they will. Also when they give you a check card if you have the money in the bank just use the check card to ATM withdraw what ever money you need. Because if you pay like it is a credit card, they will hit you with all kinds of $27.00 fees.

check your address

AUTHOR: Kaylee - (U.S.A.)

Hi,
I read that you sent your payment to Milwaukee. I used to work there - let me give you a couple of tips for what to do.

First a bit of background - The Milwaukee site of Washington Mutual has not accepted payments for quite some time now - their cash department moved to Jacksonville, Florida. What I would suggest in the future is to check your payment coupon. It will have the correct address listed on it. If you do not have a coupon call and ask for the correct address. If you are sending your payment via overnight mail ask for the street address - not the post office box. The address you listed used to be the post office box for general correspondence - it was never for payments. I think the address you gave me is for general correspondence in Jacksonville. There are three lockbox centers in the US - where your payment goes depends upon your address. If you send it to the general correspondence mailbox then it will be forwarded but it will take longer and could cause late charges.

Now as for your current situation - the payment processing center is unable to put a trace on a money order. What you can do is ask to speak to the Management Resolution Group (or Executive Response Group). You will be assigned a person who will work with your account until there is a resolution. A block will be put on your account for 60 days which should stop the phone calls and stop the credit bureau reporting. Unfortunately you will have to trace the money order or put a stop payment on it. Right now each payment you are making are going for the previous month. That will not go away until this situation is resolved. Once you get the results of the tracer (or the stop payment) keep a copy of it and fax it to the member of the MRG member who is dealing with your account. Make sure your cover letter has your full name, address for the property and your account number and please make sure all correspondence is legible.

I know you do not think you should have to find out if the money order was cashed and I sympathize but that will be the only way to get a resolution. If you do nothing then it will get worse. There will be late charges and possible negative credit bureau reporting. As for the late charges technically you did sent the payment to the wrong address but when I would get calls like this I would waive the charges and have the credit reporting revised.

I again sympathize with you but right now you are the only one who can get this fixed. Without proof that Washington Mutual cashed the money order or without a copy of the stop payment there is nothing further they will do. The phone calls are because your account is showing that you are a month behind and nothing will change that without proof. I know what you are thinking - that you have proof it was received. Unfortunently that does not mean a thing to them. Even if they accept payments at the Jacksonville post office box you gave me - they still need a copy of the stop payment or proof they cashed the money order. That is where the MRG rep should be able to help.

Good luck.
