What an awful experience I've just had trying to send funds from the U.S. to Canada.  It was not sufficient for me to get cash from the bank, fill out forms, provide identification, and pay a $111 fee (to send $1,200 U.S).  I needed to also return a phone call to Western Union, wait a half hour, then identify the transaction number, my driver license number, and the recipient's name.  Then, incredibly, I had to identify HOW the recipient would SPEND ALL the funds, HOW I am SURE of the recipient's IDENTITY, HOW we COMMUNICATE, and ABOUT WHAT we communicate that NO ONE ELSE WOULD KNOW (a secret handshake?)!  Neither the original WU agent (MJ, #242) nor manager (Marie) could clearly speak American English, yet both were intrusive and argumentative to the point of being obnoxious.  I will never use Western Union again.

- Nope it isn't enough...because they are not concerned that your money isn't good, they want to make sure that you are not being a victim to a scam.

Unfortunately a lot of people who send money through Western Union are..well to put it nicely, "a few cards short of a full deck".  So they are excellent victims to various scams that have people send money through Western Union(and other untraceable methods).

So while you felt you were being grilled,  this is actually a good thing that they seem to be trying to combat this fraud at least at some level.  If you really want anyone to blame...blame the scammers who made this possible.
