This company is terrible!  They lure people in with deeply discounted vacation tickets and then keep you at their presentation until you are broken down to buying a timeshare.  We were there for a one hour appointment that lasted more than 3 hours.

Ultimately, I would not complain except we purchased the rental property under false pretenses.  The sales representative used specific language and stated that since we were buying our property in Florida it was more in demand and there would be no problems switching weeks for another location.  He said that people that can't find a switch usually get a cheap property in Missouri and then are upset when no one want to trade a week (his words not mine).  Come to find out, the program they have has nothing to do with where your location is and it was nearly impossible to book rooms.

The first time we tried to use the resort, my wife and I wanted to go to New York.  It was somewhat short, notice about 2-3 months, and there was no availability.  We chalked it up to us not planning ahead and went to New Jersey instead.

The next summer we wanted to go to Hawaii, the catalog has about 18 resorts to choose from.  I called to book a reservation in the beginning of the Fall for July and the phone representative laughed and said there was no way I could get a reservation in July.  This was before she even looked at any of the hotels, she knew it wasn't going to happen.  Sure enough, after checking, no hotels in Hawaii.

Since the Summer didn't work out we took two weeks off and wanted to go to Europe in the Fall.  We wanted to go to London and Paris for a week each.  There were no hotels available in either COUNTRY for those times.  We started trying to book almost a year in advance and kept getting the run-around.  They told us to keep calling back and checking to see if anything opened up.  We then got to looking to other countries in Europe and found that most of the Western European countries didn't have time available.  There is a huge catalog with hundreds of resorts, but apparently no rooms ever have availability.

It was at this point I knew we had been scammed.  The trouble is that we have already made thousands of dollars worth of payments for something we can't even use.  I called the company to try to get out of the whole deal and you can imagine they basically said I was screwed.  They said there was nothing their company would do for us.

So, just a warning to anyone that may be thinking of a timeshare, don't buy from these guys, as their product isn't what they say it is.

First, let me disclose that I am an owner at Westgate Towers in Kissimmee, Florida (which is one of many Westgate Resorts).

No timeshare sales personnel can detain you at a sales presentation.  You are free to depart at any time during the presentation.  If you do not stay for the agreed presentation time or you misrepresent yourself, you forfeit your right to receive the agreed upon gifts.  In the future, when you go to a timeshare presentation, if you have a timer on your cell phone, set it at the beginning of the presentation (the time the timeshare sales person begins the sales pitch).  The presentation beginning time does not include the time the timeshare sales person is collecting your name, address, other timeshare ownership properties, past vacation questions, etc.  When the timeshare presentation exceeds the agreed length (usually 90 minutes), simply tell the sales person "your time has expired....It's time to collect my gifts and depart."  The sales representative will be followed by one or more higher management personnel, and simply repeat the same statement.  You should be out of there within 30 additional minutes.  These higher management personnel will begin a sales pitch, and you should cut them off at the pass.  Repeat the phrase that the sales presentation has expired and no further consideration can be given.

I don't know what specific timeshare product you purchased.  If you purchased low season (and despite what Interval International and Westgate Resorts tell you, the entire State of Florida is not red time all year round, as a low season owner you will find exchanges to be difficult.  If you purchased a Right to Use (RTU), you are merely purchasing the right to use unsold weeks and with each additional year exchanges are likely to become more difficult.

You got your panties in a knot because the meeting went over one hour but you heard the word "timeshare" and didn't have enough sense to head for the door?

You didn't "get screwed"  You screwed yourself.
