I attended Westwood College at the DuPage Campus in Woodridge Illinois. I was glad to finally have received my two year degree in Graphic Design and Multimedia. But, the financial end of the deal was horrible. I had to watch all of my papers closely and have my accountant help me with my paper work to make sure the school wasn't over charging me. Before I graduated in May of 2005 I found out the financial department tried to over charge me $4000.00 in tution. My last semester their was part time and they tried to charge me full time status. Thanks to my accountant and all of the paper work I had saved, I was able to prove I did not owe the extra $4000.00. After talking to several people and a meeting with my accountant, financial aid rep, director of financial aid and the executive director of the school I was refunded the $4000.00. Attending Westwood College was not all bad. If the financial aid department improved I wouldn't have a problem with the school. The reason why I am telling you my experience is to make sure you double check everything, don't sign unless you are absolutely sure of what you signed. Read the fine print in the contracts. Do credit reports on yourself to make sure you are getting the correct financial aid. Get copies of everything you sign and have your financial aid representative sign it as well. Save all of your paper work and have an accountant look it over.

Federal Aid?

AUTHOR: Nicole - (U.S.A.)

I may have misread your post, Amy, but did you say you attended part time during your last semester? And you recieved financial aid?

If so...you MUST contact the Department of Education. If ANY of that aid for that semester was federal (including federal grants or loans) it must be returned immediatly. This is often a scam by second rate colleges to get extra money. They claim you are full time to get the financial aid, and when DOE finds out you weren't, you're stuck footing the bill back to DOE. I would suggest you contact the Dept of Edu and tell them everything and see if they can help. Worst case scenario, the DOE makes the college pay them back and the college claims you owe, which you wont.

Good luck.

More info from FIGHT WESTWOOD!

AUTHOR: Fight - (U.S.A.)

I agree with all of your statements...The admissions reps are salespeople meeting quotas...and other than meeting sales goals, Westwood College could care less about providing a quality education.

For those of you who are reaching out for help...there is more information on the most popular web networking forum. Profile name is FIGHT WESTWOOD.
Best Wishes.

SJ........ More info for Students

AUTHOR: Johnny - (U.S.A.)

There are more than a handful of students around the Chicago Area campuses who want to know more information on the lawsuit. Some students at the Dupage campus and other Chicago campuses are already preparing to write letters to the Attorney General of Illinois and maybe even the federal level. Its good that people are FINALLYYYY waking up and doing something. The more people that get involved, the more that will get done. Links, any kind of info will be helpful. Westwood is trying there best to keep this out the public eye.

Any more information on lawsuit against Alta Colleges?

AUTHOR: Amy - (U.S.A.)

Having a hard time finding information regarding the Alta Colleges lawsuit re: "deceitful trade practices." If any one is aware of any links on line please help me find them. It is important for me to find information regarding lawsuits or class actions suits against Alta Colleges (Westwood College).

Thanks.

Fight Westwood!

AUTHOR: Sj - (U.S.A.)

It started with only a handful of students....and now over 250 former students in Texas are suing Alta Colleges (Westwood College)...Their suit is based "deceitful trades and practices", and they are supported in their case by former employees and teachers. The fact is, the corruption and immoral business practices of this school are system wide (in 6 states & on-line).

In order to seek retribution...join forces with current/former students and employees...there are many people who know what Westwood is a scam! Please consult with an fraud attorney and check your state laws to see what your educational/consumer rights are.
