White Glove Moving & Storage mistreated and ripped off Brooklyn New York
I don't usually complain unless I am very dissatisfied, but I feel I must warn others about White Glove Moving and Storage so that they may learn from my mistakes.
I contracted White Glove to move the belongings of my one bedroom apartment from Houston, Texas to Miami, Florida. I received several quotes on-line (big mistake) and decided to use White Glove, as their price was in the middle of the road, and the customer service rep was very nice. Most importantly, the rep assured me that my things would arrive in Miami within six days of the pick-up in Houston. These are not great reasons for choosing a mover, I agree, but there you have it.
After charging me $640 for "packing materials" (I had already packed nearly everything myself), they proceeded to take two weeks to deliver my things. Originally, they told me it would be six days at the most. When I received my belongings, at 8pm on a Friday night, I noticed that all of my glasses were broken, as well as my steel grill. You really have to work to break a steel grill! Luckily, none of my things were missing, but I did receive several things that were NOT mine, so somebody out there is missing a Christmas tree and some dishes. When I handed these things to the movers, they seemed to have no clue as to whom they belonged to!
Also, the two drivers who showed up were about 4 feet tall (nothing against short people) and my boyfriend had to do half the lifting. The drivers were nice, but somewhat ineffective. When I tipped them, they seemed disappointed with what I had given them. What I should have done is used the money to tip my boyfriend, as he did half the work!
It gets better. My boyfriend had contracted White Glove as well to move his things from California. It took them THREE weeks to get his things to Miami from Los Angeles. No wonder, his furniture sat in a warehouse for the first two weeks. They also managed to overcharge him by about $800, claiming that his things weighed more than anticipated. I doubt it, as he only had four pieces of furniture and two boxes.
Amazingly, its not the price hike that we were most upset about. It was the total lack of customer care and the outright lies that angered us the most. The employees we spoke to seemed to delight in our plight, and did nothing to improve the situation. Also, the fact that the delivery date was repeatedly pushed back (for both of us) was unacceptable.
In short, I wouldn't advise anyone to use a mover that they find on the internet, unless they come highly recommended. Also, don't assume, as we did, that you will get better service just because their quote is a little higher than the others.
