 I purchased a 1989 Chateau Haut Brion for $1,388.99 from Woods Wholesale Wine selecting the wine from their website. I ordered over the phone as they did not have on-line ordering. I made sure to ask them if they stood behind the wines just like Benchmark does as it was an expensive an and if the had a return policy which they said yes.

It was totally cooked - heat damaged. I called them and spoke to Andrew who said that I should send it back and that if it was like I said it was they would give me a refund and reimburse me for the return shipping. I did that and was then told by Andrew that the wine was perfectly drinkable with absolutely nothing wrong with it and besides that it was sold "as is" and they do not make refunds on old wines. This is incredible because even if the wine was perfect, an open bottle would be totally undrinkable after being open for the four to five days it spend in transit back to them and it would be impossible for him to say that it was perfectly drinkable. I was told that they have a "no return" policy and that I would not be getting a refund or reimbursement for my shipping back to them, absolutely the opposite of what I was told when I made the purchase.

I disputed the charge on my credit card and they refuted it by saying that these are old wines sold "as is" and they have a "no return" policy on wine. The credit card company took their side so I am out more than thirteen hundred dollars. The bottle was undrinkable. I am sure they knew it. What a ripoff scam.

Beware of this company - they are shameless scam artists selling shameless wines that you would not want to drink. Their storage facility might be like an oven. Do not buy from them because if you do you might be sorry. They are rude, arrogant and abusive and hang up on you when you try to reason with them on the phone. Caveat Emptor.
