The billing practices of World Gym in Sheffield Village/Elyria are highly questionable, and they will refuse to let you cancel your membership even if you pay the buy-out fee.

World Gym had my credit card on file, and took the money directly out of my account.

One day I noticed that World Gym overcharged my account 40 extra dollars.

I questioned these charges to the General Manager "Justin Hopkins", and he described the charges as "Standard Service Fees" that were issued by their billing company.

I stated that the 40 dollar fee was not in my contract, and Justin Hopkins responded by threatening to take me to small-claims court.  He warned me of litigation and legal problems if I didn't pay it off.

He offered to reduce the amount to from 40 to 20 dollars, although remained insistent on collecting some of the "service fee".  Still not satisfied, I issued a stop-payment with my credit card and brought in a check to pay off the remainder of the balance, and requested a cancellation of my account.

Justin was holding the cancellation form right in front of me, and flat-out refused to let me have it, even when I offered to pay the $100 buy-out fee.  I have an 18 month membership at $21.24 a month, and I am unable to cancel.

World Gym may double-dip into your bank account, so it is best to pay by check to avoid this from.  The General Manager may make litigious threats if you don't pay their "service fees".

Clear up incorrect information.

AUTHOR: Justin - (United States of America)

First off I want to tell this consumer that I understood his frustration over the incident and that I wasn't trying to undermind what he was trying to say.  The business has each member sign an agreement, which this customer did, and we abide by these agreements.  In the agreement which this customer signed, it states that if a payment is returned for non payment, a service fee will be charged in the amount of $20 (we don't charge more than the customer owes).

The customer didn't believe that he had to pay any fee for a non payment and refused to acknowledge that he had defaulted on his contract.  I presented him with the option to cancel and even waived a portion of his fees (The business doesn't allow cancellation forms to be taken home).  I understand that people make mistakes and that the return of payment(s) might be an oversight and not done on purpose.  I was willing to forgive some if not all fees assessed to show my understanding of the situation.

Again, I would like to apologize to this customer and I hope that he understands that I was only trying to enforce policies of the business and treat him like would treat any other customer, with respect and courtesy.
