This is a review of the Worldmark by Wyndham facility at Clear Lake.  This facility has 250-300 units.

I was in a party with two people having significant physical limitations.

The first thing you notice (or, more likely, not notice) is the sign.  It's set rather far back from the road; so far, in fact, that we didn't see it.  The people in the office claim that they weren't allowed to put it any closer to the road, but that doesn't seem to be a problem for other businesses in the area.  While I can't fault a city for not wanting to advertise the presence of a Wyndham facility, I believe that the real fault lies inn Wyndham not really caring.

Once you find the entrance, you see that the grounds are clean, neat and orderly.  The serious lack of trees is a marked contrast to the rest of the area.  Apparently Wyndham took out all the trees when they built this facility, and haven't made any significant effort to put trees back.  I guess that in this lovely green area, Wyndham feels that they don't need to be ecologically conscious.  It certainly isn't in line with Wyndham's claimed "green" initiatives.  Cutting down the excessive number of trees, as they did, has a huge long-term impact on the carbon footprint.

Now, you'll be looking for a parking space.  You may have to look hard, as the number of parking spaces barely outnumbers the number of units, and it's not uncommon for units to have more than one car.  If you have a physical limitation, the disabled parking spaces are few and far between.  I've found that both of these limitations are common for Wyndham facilities.

Check-in time.  The check-in desk is in the Lodge.  This building also has the fitness center (three treadmills, one bicycle and a weight machine) and two game areas.  The people tried to sound helpful, but that was a facade.  We got our room keys, and went looking for the room.

OK.  We found the room.  It appears that the Architect put all the 1-bedroom units on the ground floor, and all the 2-bedroom units on the 2nd floor.  This isn't unusual, until you consider that there were no elevators in any of the buildings.  This effectively limits people with physical limitations to 1-bedroom units.  While this may be according to building code (I don't know), and might even meet ADA requirements, this facility is not handicapped-friendly.

In a recently constructed facility, there is no reason to not include elevators.  This lack of a common amenity (so common that it's taken for granted by most people) is beyond my comprehension.  The cost of one elevator per building is trivial, when compared to the overall cost of the facility.

We spent 20 minutes with the people at the front desk, and the most we were able to get from them was that they'd carry the bags up the steps, which still leaves the physical pain of the people trying to get up the steps, and the fact that we'd be subject to the staff's schedule.

At this point, the contents of the room were irrelevant, as we could not use the room they had allocated, and they would not allocate any other room.  This is the end of the review.

If you, or a member of your family/party, have a physical limitation, absolutely look elsewhere.  This facility only has three rooms with wheelchair accessibility, and no 2-bedroom units that didn't require going up and down stairs (this information is from the people at the front deak - the website claims otherwise).
