June 16, 2001 I turned my phone into Worldcom because it was not working properly. At that time they gave me a "loaner". Some how during the time that the original phone (sent in for repair)was in their possession calls were made from that number. Since had reprogrammed the "loaner" phone with my original phone number, the minutes went from minimum usage to a bill of over $350.00.

After 9 hours of holding, talking and transferring time (I actually stopped keeping track at this point), I was able to talk w/ "John C at extension 8020". All inforation was faxed to him and I received a phone call with a message left on voice mail at work saying that they bill would be reduced to $78.00, which I have paid.

Now I have been turned into collections for owing $371.00 for service I have not had since September of 2001. After calling customer service, their recording says their call volume is too high and call back later.

Cloning and customer service

I know from personal experience that you can contest this and one key point you can do to resolve this is contact a lawyer. Worldcom has records that show what "tower" and area those questionable cloned calls came from.

They have now sold their wireless accounts off because they are having financial problems... (Imagine that) I would assume that the person who was suppose to handle this did not do the credit properly, or did have it on a "list" to do and found out they were losing their job so they do not really care. Or they were let go because of the sell off and it never was done. (Lots of "or" in that last sentence)Something else I can suggest is and hopefully you do have something.... Do you have any sort of sales receipts that you signed from a place during the times that the calls were made from the cloned phone?

It could be something as simple as a register receipt or something stating you were not in the area the calls were made from that day etc.. It will only back up your claim. Worldcom will have what tower those phone calls was originated from on a billing tape.

If that tower is not within reach in a certain amount of miles of you there is no way you could make that call. I hope you get everything taken care of.

I feel that because their Wireless service is now in the hands of other companys that are not responsible for your previous bills with WOrldcom that when you DO get somebody at Worldcom to speak with again it will be in vain.

Get a lawyer or legal clinic to write a letter or get customer service rep and request a manager. Better yet call one of the companys that took over their accounts and I bet they have the customer service number to call with old billing issues.

An extra hint is call the new company that is now handling Worldcom accounts in your area, tell them you want their service but you wont take it unless they get your old worldcom bill taken care of.

That may inspire the new rep from the new company to go the extra mile for you and it will also insure you that you are getting quality customer service with the new company.
