h*o h*o h*o MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

First off, we received a letter that explained our 2002 Ford Explorer had a recall that needed immediate attention. We brought in our car (which had some other repairs needed) and wanted to receive a tune up for the vehicle. Well after they quoted a 4 hour tune up at $98 an hour plus installing a driver's mirror (that they said would take 1.5 hours, when our insurance agent said it take more like .20 of an hour or 20 minutes) So basically after trying to rip us off on their service fees, $50 in parts and $550 in labor we opted to only get done what was covered by insurance. Well, while they were working on our car they discovered that another recall on our truck had been issued (that we were unaware of) and they were doing the repairs free of charge, of course. Well apparently while doing the repair (which was a part of our rear window) they told us it was a possibility that the window would break. [continued below]....

..... (This is after they broke the window of course) So now they have to special order our window and our car will be in the shop for 8-10 more days - RIGHT AT THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY. So they offered a loaner car - which is two wheel drive in the middle of winter. I have a 7 month old daughter and I don't have a two wheel drive car because of safety. So after many calls back and forth to asst. manager, managers they say they can only offer us an all wheel drive car. If they damage your car and you have to wait almost two weeks, they should offer you the equivalent or better than what you are driving. This place is a TOTAL RIP-OFF!!

"creating work"?!

AUTHOR: akthunder - (United States of America)

As a Technician who currently works at Ford let me give you a little insight on how things are done.

Every, and i mean EVERY single vehicle that come into the shop, reguardless if its an oil change, recall work, or changing a blinker light bulb, gets something called a Multi-Point Inspection.

We look over your belts, all you lights(headlights, tail lights, turn signals), horn, wiper blades, washer sprayer, cracks in your windshield, tire tread depth, remaining brake pad life, fluid leaks, steering and suspension leaks, blown joints..etc. We even give you pretty little colored blocks that we check whether its fine(green), needs to be monitored(yellow), and needs immediate servicing(red).
Any problems we run across we mark down and let the service writer know about(these are the people you talk to when you bring your vehicle into the service department to get work done).
Now they make commission, part of their job is to try and sell you the repair work, now this decision is totally up to you whether or not you want done, but you cannot hate them for trying, they have to put food on their dinner table just like you do.

And as for the OP, in order to change the drivers mirror, the actual repair time is 1.5 hours, you have to remove the inner door trim to access bolts and electrical connections. Insurance advisers are not automotive technicians, they have no idea what actually goes on in repairing cars. One final note, the loaner FWD focus (of course you failed to specify, when you say 2WD you make it sound like its a rear wheel drive car that we gave you for the winter, HA, if only we actually HAD those to give out) which you received while you car was in the shop actually crash test rates much higher than the Exploder which you own. so the safety thing you are trying to pull won't work here.

Watch out on FORD recalls.

AUTHOR: Will - (U.S.A.)

It's real easy to spot a dishonest dealership.....they're the ones open for business!

Ford dealerships are known for adding or creating more work when a vehicle comes in for "free" recall work.  Don't be surprised when you get you explorer back and discover a new problem because they unplugged something to get you back in.

their is no rip off here

AUTHOR: Tech1 - (U.S.A.)

Well let's see here you had two recalls. What were they? They told you one of the recalls could break your rear window, which they broke before telling you this. Therefore, you must know this buy declining the second recall is that right.

As for the rental, they cannot have equivalent vehicle rentals. Why IT COST WAY TOO MUCH. Can you imagine how many trucks that would have to be bought? I am surprised they even had an all wheel drive they cost more buy being all wheel drive.

You must have to travel some real back out of the way roads. If you need a 4X4 truck to drive everywhere in town you don't know how to drive. My grandfather in Michigan drove only two wheel drive trucks. I had the pleasure of watching him pull out many 4X4 trucks that went into the ditch I asked him why (I was 13) he said they don't know how to drive 4X4 only helps you go forward. Stopping and turning were the same as any other vehicle. And he was right.

Lastly, you aren't paying for the repair
