I've been a Wyndham/Fairfield Resorts owner since 2003 and am so frustrated over my membership with them. We have "upgraded" our membership twice--much to our dismay, only because the salesperson, Robin Dickerson in Nashville, made promises to us during the sales presentation that have not been kept.
We were told that if we purchased additional points, we would be able to rent time to others. While that is "technically" true, what they DON'T tell you is that if you do this more than a certain number of times during a year, they charge you $99 for a "guest" confirmation, or if you try to use their "Extra Rewards" program to rent it for you, they may not choose to accept your rental. I booked a room in Orlando at Bonnet Creek but when calling Wyndham, they refused to list the rental for me because they said they "already had too many". Therefore, I had to list it on eBay and use a guest confirmation after I rented it.
Secondly, they say that you can "book your airline flight" by using your points. I was all excited about booking my flight to California, but when I called Wyndham to do this, I was told that I could not use my points because there was "nothing available" although every travel site I could find had available reservations. I was told by the representative, "We only have so many we can get, and we have nothing available". They also don't tell you that there are black-out times where you cannot fly, especially during holidays when most are likely to want to travel.
I was also told by Robin Dickerson in Nashville that I could get my maintenance points down if I supplied names and phone numbers to them--that their salespeople would make the calls and do the work. I emailed names to her and nothing ever came of it. So, I am stuck paying all the fees, all of the payments, and they are sitting pretty.
Once you buy Wyndham, it is VERY hard to get rid of... virtually impossible. Why? Take a look at eBay and how many people are trying to sell their timeshares! You may get pennies on the dollar if you're lucky. It is NOT an investment as the salespeople so cleverly portray their product, but it is a long-term, lifetime commitment that doesn't go away.
When talking to their customer relations people, they said, "There is no way for us to tell potential owners every rule and regulation while sitting at a sales presentation--all of that is included in the owner manual." When do you get your owner's manual? AFTER you sign the dotted line. Then they said, "That's why there is a three-day right of recission time period".
So, if you want to travel, I would suggest helping the current owners who own Wyndham and renting from them, because owning Wyndham timeshare property is a huge detriment to your finances. It transfers to your family forever, so you are also "sticking it to the ones you love" if you have this.
WARNING: Do NOT under any circumstances purchase Wyndham property. You will regret it for years to come.
