My 2000 Yamaha Sportboat had defective jet pump cleanout plugs. While boating, one plug forcefully ejected causing boat to partially submerge. Both engines ingested salt water and river silt which caused both engines to sieze. The boat had less than four hours on it! Yamaha customer service said the problem was mine because the warranty didn't cover water in the motors. Insurance covered some but I lost thousands of dollars.

Still Ripped!

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

Thanks for the suggestion on a solution to the Yamaha XR1800, maybe it will help the other unfortunate thousands of people that bought them. My boat was totalled by the defective part but it wasn't the only defective part on the boat.

Both seat adjusters were broken, repaired and the drivers was broken again. One tachometer was defective and replaced.

The catch on the access to the jet pumps was missing on delivery so every wave I went over opened the hatch and turned off my engines far away from the dock or dealer .

The 12v accessory plug was wired backward and fried my friends cell phone. The jet pump housing didn't seal correctly and filled the bilge and ski locker with water ruinning my belongings that I didn't expect would get wet on the second test run on a brand new boat. Keep in mind this boat only had four hours on it and I lost thousands of dollars. CHRIS SIPE

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Simple Aftermarket Fix Is Available

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

A small number of Yamaha boats have experienced this problem.

While Yamaha refuses to admit that the problem exists, there is a simple and inexpensive aftermarket solution. yamahajetboats.com is a website that has LOTS of info on these boats. Here is the link to the message board where you can do a search of the subject: http://www.network54.com/Forum/103885
