I dropped my dog off here at 7:30 am for dog daycare..around 10:30am they called me saying they lost my dog. Family members, friends, and co workers left work to help me search for my dog. NO ONE from there had even been attempting to locate my dog..come to find out while frantically looking for my dog they uncovered that my dog had actually went missing around 9am about an hour and half before they contacted me. They workers seemed to try and delay calling to cover up the situation. Later did I notice the outdoor condtions that they are exposing dogs to.

The fence was make shift..looked like it was put together with zip ties and plywood..there are huge holes in the fence. I have pictures and incident reports made by a animal investigator that showed up to see the situation. We found my dog 4 hours later in a pond about a mile away swimmig for his life and drowning..he is ok and we are continuing to watch him. I would appreciate it if someone looked into this place to make sure something is done to prevent this from happening to other dogs and their owners. I would be happy to share photos so that I can help other people.

Yips and Yaps Petcare/RESPONSE

AUTHOR: kzero23 - ()

First of all, in no way is the title of this article misleading. My dog was under your supervision at the time and he got out and you lost sight of him.

Secondly, when I went into the facility (after being called an hour and a half late) your staff was standing around doing nothing. All they kept saying was "I understand". Having two of your staff members out "driving" around isn't what I would consider searching for my dog. The few times that I ran into them they were just driving. I never once heard them call my dog's name or show any interest into really wanting to help find my dog. If you had time to contact animal control then why did you not have time to contact his owner?

When I walked in, a lady was just grooming a dog so how come she couldn't take two minutes out of her groom to contact me an hour and a half earlier? This could have shortened the time spent looking for him and also the trauma caused on my dog. Even though you say taking time out to call me would have resulted in losing the sight of my dog, you STILL lost sight of him. As I was searching for him, a lady that works at the chiropractor's office in the plaza before yours came out to tell me she had last seen him an hour ago, so what good did "half of your staff" do?

Thirdly, your staff SHOULD HAVE been forthcoming with any information that I asked as it is MY dog that YOUR staff was responsible for during that time period. You did us no good by being forthcoming because no one had any information besides that he had went missing an hour and a half earlier.

As for the fence, it was very much so held together with zip ties and plywood/chicken wire. We have pictures to prove this. If you say your fence is up to code, then why did you have to go out the next day and change what you had going on the previous day? The hole in the fence was located right at the front of the yard, right next to the door where the dogs go in and out at. It's sad that my dog getting out has made you realize the fence needed to be repaired and changed.

The fact that my dog is healthy and is okay after all of this is something you should be thankful for, and that I am thankful for. Any longer and he would not be with us today. As you said, you were NOT present when he was found therefore, you have no idea the condition he was found in. Never once did you come out to see how my dog was or if he was okay so as a result you would have no idea if he was in "high spirits" and I have plenty of people that would vouch for that. Thankfully, he didn't get hypothermia after being in a pond as cold as it was. I know my dog like that back of my hand and he was no where near "high spirits." My dog continually whined after picking him up, and for the rest of the day. You paid for the vet visit after having three of my family members ask you for it. You never once came out and offered until we brought it up.

This daycare has done nothing but traumatize me and my family. You think you can trust a professional dog kennel with your dog, and at the end of the day you can't. We were trying out this dog daycare/kennel for our upcoming vacation, to make sure we, as well as our dog, liked it. Needless to say, we will not be leaving our dog in your facility and would not recommend you to anyone. Never once in your response have you or your staff members been compassionate to our situation or what we have been through. Your trying to defend your side versus admitting your wrongs throughout this whole thing.

#2 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Owner's Response

AUTHOR: bkmeadows - ()

I am the owner of this company and this story is not entirely accurate.

First of all, the title is very misleading. We in no way just let the dog loose, the dog found a weak spot in our fence and took advantage of the opportunity.

Secondly, we had half of our staff searching for the dog in cars and on foot. We also contacted animal control to get their assistance in locating the dog. As soon as we were aware the dog was missing a full on search party was formed. We had the dog in our grasp multiple times and he darted away from us several times. Had we stopped chasing the dog to contact the owner we would have risked losing sight of the dog and not being able to reunite the pet with his owner.

Thirdly, our staff was completely forthcoming with any information the owner requested. We never tried to hide anything from them.

Our fence is not held together with zip ties and plywood. We have chicken wire that is attached to our fence with zip ties and there was a corner of our fence that had plywood to block the dogs from seeing the road to prevent noise pollution in our area. Since this incident, the very next day in fact, we have placed plywood around the entire perimeter of the fence at the base to prevent any other pets from getting out. We have been open for almost 6 years and have never had an incident with a pet getting out of our yard until this case.

The dog was found in a pond near the store, as far as him almost drowning in said pond I cannot be sure as I was not present when he was found. I can say, however, that the dog looked unharmed and in high spirits when I saw the dog with his owner. I also spoke with the vet that examined the dog and was assured that the dog was 100% healthy, was just given fluids in case of dehydration. We also paid for the vet visit to ensure that the owner had no out of pocket expense for this incident.

We have done nothing but cooperate with the owner of this pet and we are in full accordance with all regulations set up by the county's animal control for kennels. We have also added extra precautions to our fence to prevent this from ever  happening again.
