SEO Reputation Management at its best!

Yodle takes advantage of unsophisticated small businesses. They set up a separate website for small businesses, and then buys heavily marked up "pay-per-click" programs from Google and Bing. This separate website essentially competes with the existing website, and thus, the small advertiser ends up getting changed for traffic that would natually go to the existing website. Yodle "buys" the exact words of a search for a business (e.g. BRAKE MAX), and secures the top paid position on search. Essentially, Yodle's strategy is to "ambush" and charge for leads that would naturally be organic search traffic. There whole business model, and the Rip-Off of small businesses, is appalling.

Rebuttal to Yodle

AUTHOR: Pampero Firpo - ()

Sorry, but the Yodle explanation is totally lame. Yodle sets up their client's website so Yodle can "own" your businesses place on the internet. The site Yodle sets up actually competes with a businesses' existing site, and directs its SEO efforts toward optimizing the site Yodle owns...and not your site. Even worse, Yodle "ambushes" leads that naturally would go to your site for free. And, you have to pay Yodle for these leads, at an exhorbinent markup. Yodle's "algorithm" actually is set up to optimize this "ambushing" to Yodle's benefit. By the way, Yodle cites "Lots of happy clients". Not true. Check out the recent WSJ article. Smart clients are leaving Yodle in droves. That is why Yodle is targeting low sophisticated businesses with high pressure tactics, and onerous contract terms.

Yodle Response

AUTHOR: Syvenna Siebert - ()

Hello, my name is Syvenna Siebert, and I’m a manager in the communications department at Yodle.  I think it’s important to clarify a few of points about how we work.

We recommend to our clients that we create a website for them because our data consistently shows that our sites convert at a higher rate than other small business’ websites. We specifically optimize our websites for conversion.

I also can assure you that our strategy is not to “ambush” and charge for leads that would typically be organic search traffic.  Paid search advertising is just one part of our offerings and SEO is just as big a component of what we provide to small businesses. Our paid search advertising also typically provides significant value to our customers. We use an algorithm based on the performance data we have from our tens of thousands of customers to drive the best possible results.

I’m sorry to hear the way you feel about our business model. We have thousands of customers who have been with us for multiple years, which we believe validates the quality of our products and services. I encourage you to check out the testimonials section on our website to see just a small representation of our success stories: http://www.yodle.com/success-stories/.

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to reach out to me directly at syvenna.siebert@yodle.com or 646-770-8974.

Thanks,

Syvenna
