A Greco automotive Gave an estimate & said he forgot to add labor. Charged additional $1050.00 Stuart Florida
*Consumer Comment: Did you notice that box on the lower left corner of the receipt?
I needed a new engine for my truck. A Greco automotive quoted me $3,400 for a rebuilt engine with 75,000 miles on it. I checked the web & there's rebuilt ones for $2,400. So I agreed to the price. The day my truck was done I get a call saying come pick up my truck & by the way I forgot to quote you labor & its $1,600 more than the $3,400. I needed my truck & he only dropped the additional $1,600 to $1,050 extra. What a rip off!!! When you quote a price for repairs you should stick to it & not try to get more money. If you make a mistake your supposed to eat it not pass it on to the consumer.

Did you notice that box on the lower left corner of the receipt?

That box is to be filled in at the time of the estimate. I have noticed that the shady repair places ignore that box. If you are getting any work done on your vehicle, it is up to you to either:
- fill in the box requiring a written estimate from the repair facility before you authorize work
- walk away and not have the work done
I am not saying that what he did is right, but as a consumer, we all have to watch out for the repair places that try to get over on us by verbally quoting one thing and then charging more at the time the work is done. The way to protect yourself is by having the repairman commit to a written repair quote (filling in that box).
