On November 13th I went into the local Verizon store which I found out is actually A Wireless and not Verizon. I was greeted by a courteous sales, Justin. I advised him that I wanted to upgrade my Dad's flip phone since he was eligible for an upgrade. Justin then showed me a few flip phones which were expensive and told me that I could upgrade my Dad to a smart phone cheaper. Cheaper is good right? So I listened and then asked what it would do to my monthly phone bill. At this point he even offered me a 2 - 1 upgrade to a Samsung smart phone. I also had an old flip phone. So again I asked how much my phone bill would go up a month. He then told me that it would only go up 10 dollars. So I thought that seemed to be a good deal and I could live with a 10 dollar increase to have two new smart phones. I was told that I could bring them back within 3 days for a full refund and within 15 days but had to pay a restocking fee.
I was fine with the phones but happen to go online to my verizon account a few days later to see what my actual bill would be. I noticed that the bill was now going to be about 50 dollars more a month. I thought I was reading it wrong so I call the verizon support number and spoke to Verizon. Well they confirmed that the information on my bill was correct and it was going to cost much more than what Justin told me. I then went back to A Wireless which at this point was beyond the 3 day return period to find out what I could do. I went back and Justin was there so I explained to him what I was told by Verizon and his reply was that my bill should only be 10 more. He wanted to me to wait for my first bill to confirm.
At this point I did not want to do that so I told him I wanted to return the phones. I was promptly told that I had to pay a restocking fee because I was past the 3 day return period. I could not dispute that because it was beyond the three day period but I expained to him that it took me that much time to realize that my bill was not going to be what he told me and I requested that I be granted a full refund because I was mislead. He replied that it was beyond the 3 day period and that he had no choice but to charge me the restocking fee. I asked to see the manager and he replied he was the manager. I then asked to speak with his manager and he then said that I could not and I should call Verizon. I did call Verizon and explain that problem that I had and what a poor choice of agents they had representing the Verizon brand.
They told me that they could not help since A Wireless was a separate company and it would be up to them to make it right. At this point I was so fustrated that I was thinking about canceling my phone service all together but then I reconsidered since Verizon does have the best cell phone covererage and it was their agent and not Verizon that caused the problem. So I filed a compliant with Verizon to pass on about the whole ordeal. Unfortunately I have not heard back from either Verizon or A Wireless. So due to the misleading information I am out 142.75 and I am back to my original phones. By the way whe A Wireless canceled my service they did not do it correctly and it took me 2 or 3 phone calls to get back to where I was prior to the misleading upgrade. For full disclosure the 142.75 cost is from the following which was not refunded:
2 Gadget Guards 42.48, Data transfer fees 20.00, restocking fee of 70.00 which the balance taxes. I will never go into that A wireless store ever again and in fact I will recommend to my friends and family that they avoid this store all together. Hopefully this post will help prevent someone else from getting Ripped off by A Wireless as I have been.
