My friend told me he saved money switching his car insurance to AAA. I've had my insurance with Travelers for some time and been pleased with them ecspesially the way they handled my hail claim on home. So reluctantly I decided to call the office in Crestwood for quote. Spoke to an agent and was asked tons of questions and was waiting for him to ask next for a urine sample. He said why all they need so much info is to underwrite it thoroughly and the enables them to be so competitive. I was prepared and had my current policy out and wanted to compare apples to apples. The price was cheaper then Travelers by $35 for six months and I didn't think it was worth the time it took to switch but my wife insisted cause she liked the travel stuff they offer. Made my appointment went in and went over it again to be sure nothing was missed signed the app and made payment in full for six months. Get policy in mail week later and to my suprise it's $75 more. Called the agent and was told he need

ed to call his underwriter not to worry. Week goes by no phone call, So i called him up and got his voicemail and didn't get a call back for another week. This is when it gets bad. Agent says while quoting and entering my info he made mistake with how long i've been with Travelers. He put 8 years when it's was 7 yeras 10 months with them. Then he tells me he had put wrong info for the usage of my vehicle and it should be business use which is the reason for most of the increase. This was unbelievable...I asked what determines the business use? Agent says when someone drives their car to different places for work. I told him I drive my car to work and from there take company vehicle to job location. He said he agreed with me and that the info would be given to underwriter and fixed.

Well sad to say another week goes by no call. Again I have to call him and when he answers he tells me sorry it is what it is. Unbelievable now I've invested way to much time and pissed off. Call agent and told him I'm cancelling to refund my money. Agent says you will be short rated (penalized) because i already cancelled my Travelrs and needed the two weeks of coverage with AAA. I can't believe what they did. Had me hanging for two weeks so they could keep more of my money. One thing I found out from an ex agent that AAA has gotten rid of all their good agents and have adopted the practice of hiring agents that have unatainable quoatas and don't make it past 3 years. I was also told by ex employee who is my agent/broker I use.  Has tons of companies including AAA that he uses. He told me he could of tried them for me but preferrs not to use them because of their goofy rating system. They are the only company that will change the price after binding the policy. All the other ones will only increase if a ticket or violation was missed and not mentioned by the insured otherwise the rates locked in. To me I think that's bad business and something needs to be done. If someone can tell me how and why they can do this I would like to Know. Any other business beside insurance couldn't do this bate and switch. I think if one of their agents makes a mistake to honor that rate for six months and after that make the correction. I'm not the type who makes complaints but in this situation I felt very taken advantage of.

A few things..

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, October 08, 2013

First I was with AAA of Southern California for over a decade and they had never once been known as AAA of Missouri.  Next, they never gave 6-Month policies..they were always a 12 month policy.

As to your "broker".

I was also told by ex employee who is my agent/broker I use.  Has tons of companies including AAA that he uses. He told me he could of tried them for me but preferrs not to use them because of their goofy rating
system.

AAA Insurance is not available through brokers..they are only available through AAA Agents.  You also have to realize where you are getting your "information" from..an EX employee who no longer works for them and wants your business back.  So isn't it possible that they are just telling you what you want to hear?

Isn't the job of a broker to get you the best rate possible?  Not make it easy on themselves by not having to deal with a rating system they feel is "goofy".  By the way what is their definition of "goofy".

They are the only company that will change the price after binding the policy.

- Again, incorrect. You can search not only this site but the internet and plug in just about any Insurance Company to find complaints about a company changing a rate after they were quoted a different rate.

And no I am not an employee of AAA or any Insurance company.  I just had AAA(So Cal) for over a decade until my situation changed and in combining several policies I was able to save by going to a different insurance company.  It was not for any service or billing issues.
