10/01/13, My husband called and requested service for our 6 year old refrigerator which had stopped cooling. On 10/2/13, A serviceman came from Absolute Appliance came to our house and told my husband we needed a new compressor. He gave us a price of $664.82. My husband was in shock over the cost of a compressor, and the service man said he could give us a discount if we paid him cash. The price would be $550.00. My husband agreed. He made a phone call and said he did not have the compressor in stock, but he could have it the next day. The next day 10/3, Joe Underwood (the owner) came to the house at 7:30 in the morning. We didn't expect him that early. He started installing the compressor. Before he left, the refrigerator was making a very loud rattle and obnoxious noise. He told my husband it would calm down after the first defrost cycle. The noise just kept getting louder and louder. My husband immediately called their business and was told they would have Joe call. He didn't call back. I was going crazy with this noise so I called back. Finally, Joe called and told my husband to level the refrigerator. He also said it needed to go through a one defrost cycle, and the noise would stop. My husband leveled the refrigerator as soon as he hung up the phone. The rattle calmed down a bit, but when the compressor kicks in, there is an extremely loud humming noise with very loud knocking. This noise is so loud when the compressor kicks on that you can't have a conversation in the kitchen. We've also had to eat our meals in the living room since 10/3 because you can't talk and it makes you a nervous wreck! Now how ridiculous is this? BUT WE ARE BEING PATIENT. I have called different 3 times and my husband has called twice, and Joe was supposed to return calls, but did not. WE ARE STILL BEING PATIENT. On Wednesday, 10/9 my husband called and again and told the woman who answers the phone that the loud noise was still going on, and we can't live like this. We wanted someone to come out and fix the refrigerator. The lady stated they would have to charge us a service fee. My husband told them that he was not paying a service fee due to the fact this has been happening since Joe walked out the door, and we called them immediately. Then she said that she didn't have anyone to send out, if she called someone to come in, we would have to pay the fee but if we waited till Monday 10/14, she wouldn't charge the fee. My husband told her to go ahead and schedule for Monday. She then set an appointment with Joe for Monday 10/14. She said Joe would be at our home between 11:00-1:00 in the afternoon. I had a feeling he wouldn't show, and he didn't. PATIENCE IS NOW WEARING THIN. At 2:00 I called them and the answering machine message said they were closed for inventory and would re-open on MONDAY. Well it was Monday. I left a message that we had a service appointment and Joe didn't show. Of course they didn't call back. At 2:50 I called back and the message machine came on again. I am angry at this point due to the fact that most people don't have the luxury of staying home/not working. I rearranged my schedule missing a half a days work for a no-show appointment all the while I am listening to this LOUD jackhammer sounding compressor while eating my lunch in the living room.. I was leaving a message about the refrigerator, and the missed appointment. I was saying that I wanted them to come and get their compressor off and give me my cash back, or I was going to go file a complaint in small claims court...and about that time Joe picked up the phone there and started telling me that they were closed because of inventory and he didn't know why she made the appointment for today (Even though the message said they would re-open today). He started ranting that he was the owner (which I already figured that out last week) at me and took control of the conversation and would not let me speak. When he hatefully said, LOOK, your not going to threaten me to file small claims court and expect me to come out, and I said YOU LOOK, and he hung up the phone on me. As a business owner, he failed to understand that we would not have had this phone conversation at all if he would have held up his end of the deal. And I assure you, after listening to this noise for 12 days with no attempt from the company to fix it, anyone's nerves would be on end. OUT OF PATIENCE. I don't think it is unreasonable for my husband and I to have expected to get our refrigerator repaired when they came out and we paid them money. What I really find ridiculous is the fact that we called them a little over an hour after Joe left (he didn't even have time to deposit our money yet) , and he wouldn't come back. They won't return your calls and act like we are in the wrong for calling them. But I just bet if Joe paid someone his money he worked a week for, to repair something at his house, he would feel differently when treated this way.. We were scammed. Joe came to our house, threw the CASH discount idea out. When my husband agreed, he found any kind of junk compressor for us (Joe told us he didn't want to put the same kind of compressor in because it was junk). He wanted the cash so bad he shows up at our house at 7:30 in the morning. He installed his junk compressor, walked out the door knowing full well what he did. This compressor is making the same kind of sound ONLY LOUDER than the original one did before it went out. So using Absolute Appliance was the biggest mistake we have ever made. We should have read all the complaints on 'this' website first. So now, by the end of the week, I am going to pay another service fee to get a Reputable Company to come out and look at this compressor and get written facts about what is wrong and what Joe sold us for small claims court. I am 55 years old and have never made a complaint on anyone. I have never had any business treat me this way. I intend on doing everything in my power, every single day, till I get my hard earned money back!
