AdEfx a Canadian based advertising agency offers marketing devices to salons around the nation. The product being sold is fine; package of salon sampling services offered at almost 80%off. I know this because I purchsed one of the packages my self 3 years ago and enjoyed it. The problem arose when I was looking for employment. AdEfx places and advertisement in the SunSentinel adn the Miami Harold every week, changing the wording. The ad I responded to claims the company is looking to hire marketing people.

The job duties of someone doing marketing can go as this; build and maintain client relations, develope creative materials to boost company sales, market research, and so on. In South Florida the job duties of most marketing people have nothing to do with marketing. AdEfx allowed another applicant and I to come in to interview. On my first interview I was told I would be doing creative marketing, putting together packages for selling. Which ends up being a little bit of graphic design which is fine with me because this is what my BFA is for. I and the other woman arrive for the second interview and we are taken 2 hours away from the office by car.

We are then informed that the creative marketing is actuall door to door sales of these packages and are asked if we want to do this. I answer "No" because I have too much education to do door to door sales in the hot Florida sun. I was then told to take the train back to the office because I refused the position. The other applicant and I were refused transportation and had to travel 8 hours to get back to our own vehicles.

After alerting the head office in Canada, nothing more was done. And after talking with several other people I have found that this kind of thing happens in South Florida all the time! So be very careful with these "advertising agencies" who are willing to take you far away from home and leave you standing by the road when you find out the position isn't what you thought it was going to be.
