In September 09, I decided to purchase a second puppy for our home. After looking at several different sites, I landed on affordablepup.com. Our Molly, which we also purchased from a breeder on the internet, is only 7 pounds, so I wanted a pup that would be as small or smaller. I fell in love with Sophie, and her "teacup" description made her a perfect fit. As a safety measure, I called affordablepup.com and got Matthew Packard on the phone, a salesman for affordablepup.com. I addressed my concerns about size, and was reassured repeatedly she would only be 5 pounds full grown. I spoke with Matthew twice that evening, then again the following day. After speaking with Matthew repeatedly, I felt reassured that they were on the up and up. Matt was friendly, and well spoken, a good salesman.
Sophie arrived, cute cuddly and tiny, along with her medication, in A-OK condition. We followed the instructions given to a T, taking her to the vet and giving her the medication provided. She adjusted quickly, and her and Molly hit it off quick.
It has been four months since Sophie arrived, and I have a brute on my hands. Sophie reached 5 pounds within 2 months, and is now a whopping 10 pounds as of her last vet visit. My vet estimates she will grow to 14 pounds or better full grown. Three times the "guaranteed" size. The vet also laughed when I told them the breed, and said "no way". She was supposed to be a Maltese/Yorkie aka "Morkie". Our vet believes she is mixed with another breed due to her frame and size. She also has some teeth problems.
After the last vet visit, I called Mike at affordablepup.com, sure that we would be able to reach some kind of arrangement. I explained the conversation with Matthew, and Mike said he would "look into it" and get back to me. After three days, I called him back as he had not called yet. He indicated I should have purchased a weight guarantee. Matthew never mentioned a weight guarantee, did not indicate that I needed one, and told me the dog would only grow to be 5-6 pounds full grown.
I have not to date, been able to reach an agreement with affordablepup.com. If I do, I will gladly post it here. I sent photos as requested by Mike Schoeff (apparently the owner), and have not received a response. Sophie was misrepresented, and I was lied to by the sales staff. Above all, I am disappointed as I really trusted their "knowledgeable" sales person. Mike DID offer to have me fly the dog back and he would give me a "good deal" on a different pup. What a joke! Gas to the airport 2 hours away, spent vet expenses, and spend more money with this company?
My seven kids have fallen in love with Sophie, but she is NOT the breed or size advertised and promised, and is NOT what I paid $500 + $275 shipping for!

Talks about getting size guarantee

In the complaint the person bought a dog that was listed to be an adult dog of 5 pounds. The store states that the women should have gotten a dog that came with a Guarantee for adult size. When using terms like teacups there is an expectation that the adult dog will be the weight listed under the puppys picture. I found it interesting that there is no gaurantee even offered for any of the dogs listed when it came to size.
The stores answer that if you want a small 5 pound dog you should get a purebred instead of a mix breed like a Morkie and yet they continue to list there mix breed dogs (Morkie) with a adult weight 4-6 pounds. It seems that when someone gets a sick dog that was shipped they just blame it on the airline. Since they are responsible for which airline they choose they should be making sure the dog gets on the plane that is a direct flight.
The store should also offer the choice that allows a direct flight even though it may not be the closet airport to the customer or sending the puppy to the closer airport that has a transfer. But what worries me the most about this place I have never seen a breeder or petstore offer to customers to rent nebulizers for $75.00 incase the puppy comes with breathing problems. If the puppy is having breathing problems he should not be sold untill the problem is gone. These very small puppies should not be shipped until they are least 10 - 12 weeks old.
Since you do not see the parents or the place they come from God only know in what conditions these puppys were born in. While puppies are great sometime getting a dog a little older is a better choice. There 13,000 rescues and Shelters in the US with some really great dogs. It may take a little longer to get just what you want but there is nothing like the feeling that because of you you dog is alive and loved instead of being put down. Petfinder.com have them all listed.

I purchased a puppy from Affordable Pup and couldn't be happier. All the staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful and made the experience of purchasing our new puppy all I had hoped..and then some. The facilities are top notch and our puppy is everything they claimed it to be. I would definitely recommend AffordablePup to anyone looking for a puppy. I believe the person who failed to do their research. If you go to the AffordablePup site and look the FAQ's all their concerns would have been answered before they posted. In my opinion AffordablePup is upfront, reliable, honest and extremely knowledgeable about the puppies they provide.

Teacup puppy from affordablepup grew to 16lbs

Writing to update my original complaint. Sophie ended up growing to a whopping 16lbs. I have since purchased purebreeds from two different online breeders with much success, receiving two healthy, miniatures. Will never do business with Affordablepup and I have stopped several folks from purchasing from them. They tell you what you want to hear on the phone, but be sure to read the guarantees and get every promise in writing. Good con artists always sound like good trustworthy guys... otherwise they would not make good con artists... lesson learned.

What's this? I too bought a pup from affordablepups. They advertised a Teacup Pom. They did not mention the full grown weight in their add. I emailed them directly and asked how much he would weigh, at that time I was told " no more than 5 lbs". Well, I went ahead and bought the pup...he was adorable, sweet and healthy when he arrived. As he grew and grew and grew to a whopping 16lbs there were many issues. He had double rows of teeth, his knees were out of joint and his testicles did not drop. I email the company and they were of no help what so ever. They stated that they never guaranteed the weight but because the pups knees were not in the best health we could get the records from the vet and they would exchange the dog...well the dog was months old by now and the whole family was in love with him, so of course we would never exchange him...they offered no monetary compensation. One of the reasons I am writing is to tell everyone...yes..there are thousands of wonderful testimonies on their site...because they only post the positive ones. I actually wrote a negative testimony and it was never published, so I know there are many more out there!!!!

Mike Schoeff is the biggest piece of sh*t in columbus. defines the word "loser". he tries to flaunt his supposed "wealth" whenever he gets the chance, yet what he doesn't realize is that people who are actually wealthy and have money don't need to be petty and talk about it. He is the most insecure a*shole I've ever met. I presume he's bitter about the fact hat he's 28 and looks 45 (absolutely no joke- it's sad). He's the runt of his family, the ugly turd in the corner. I wonder if the IRS has been looking into him yet? The amounts of $ that he claims his puppy biz makes doesn't make sense.....it just doesn't add up. well, unless *something else* were going on of course. i guess he pays cash for absolutely EVERYTHING. odd? people like him usually do themselves in when it's all said and done- his ridiculous behavior and rude, obnoxious, and sh*thead ways will be his undoing. eat sh*t mike, you are a moron and you know it. people like you go from "wealthy" to broke overnight. fly by night unethical dipsh*t. i can't believe you are in a capacity where dogs are supposedly under your care. that is frightening. you only have the capacity to care about yourself, those poor dogs.

This is not meant to be insulting of the consumer, but as a bit of common sense
2. Your second mistake was falling for this "Teacup" nonsense and it is just that. Nonsense. The Yorkie breed standard calls for a 7lbs or less dog. The Maltese standard calls for the same with 4-6 preferred.
3. Vet guess are just that. Guesses. Mutts can come out looking like NEITHER parental breed or even a mix of the two.
4. Mutts are unpredictable. If you want a small dog you should have gotten an adult from a rescue or shelter OR a puppy from a reputable breeder(That means a PUREBRED) or a retired show/performance adult or an older pup who turned out to not be suitable for showing and breeding.
At the end of the day you got what you paid for - A mutt that can't be proven to be any number of breeds (Breed ID tests are bunk), and a "teacup" A size class that does not exist and no good breeder will ever use.
Sara you are no the first person to buy a "teacup" and end up with a dog over the size standard of EITHER breed used(in the case of certain toy breeds) and you will not be the last as long as people continue to buy this nonsense
This part is for Micheal - Teacups by their very nature are a SCAM. While you may have real live animals to sell, by selling them as "teacups" you have people buying under the false assumption that they will be getting a dog that won't get bigger than x amount of pounds.
Oh and about your comment of no breeder would dare refund full purchase price and allow the owner to keep the dog - You are wrong. I know of at least TWO breeders I have met while on my search for a Catahoula that do JUST THAT. Of course they require proof the first animal has been altered.

I did speak to this customer and offer a $100 refund for the poor weight ESTIMATE or offered a full refund if she wanted to return the puppy due to her disappointment. I then also offered the customer an option to keep her puppy since the children loved it and sell her a puppy with a weight guarantee at our cost (the customer failed to mention this in her complaint above, she combined two of my offers together)! The customer then explained they wanted a full refund for the dog and wanted to keep the dog. Obviously this is an unreasonable request no where in America can you receive a full refund and keep the product. We provided a HEALTHY puppy that grew larger than expected, we do offer dogs with weight guarantees and the customer did not purchase a puppy with this type of guarantee therefore we were guessing on her full grown weight, a general weight on this breed is 5-7lbs as we tell every customer, but this is NEVER a guarantee, if you would like to get a puppy from us that stays under a specific weight please make sure you purchase one with a weight guarantee. It is better to purchase a purebreed if you want a TINY TINY pup as these tend to stay much smaller. Mixes are mixes it is hard to tell 100% what the puppy will turn out looking like as an adult. Again if weight is a major concern it is best to go for purebred puppy and not a mix or look for a mix with a weight guarantee! Of course one negative statement outweighs the thousands of happy customers we have, please feel free to go to our site and read all the great customer referrals. In business you cant make everyone happy, we feel like we offered a fair resolution but unfortunately this customer felt it was not to their liking, and questions about this situation feel free to email me. Again we apologize to the customer for the poor estimate and wish her and her family the best with their puppy!
