A pipe in my powder room wall cracked flooding my basement which was first noticed 5/6/2016 when my grandson and I were exiting my rear garage door, I noticed the carpet was soaked. The water rose from the carpet with every step. Once I realized it was coming from my powder room, I immediately shut off the valve behind the toilet and waited it out. That same day, Friday, May 6th,@ 5:19pm, I contacted my Allstate insurance Agent Lance Davidson Financial and spoke with Sam Levine who holds my homeowners policy to see what my policy covers before I made a claim and before I would call in a contractor to see exactly what my problem was. I never disclosed to my agent that anything was wrong. At this time, I was told my home was covered for everything except for flood insurance, sump pump backup and earthquakes. We spoke extensively for approximately 1/2 hr regarding my policy coverage; again, I was informed that I was in great shape . I needed to know that all of my I's were dotted and T's were crossed before I could think of filing a claim.

At this time, I felt comfortable knowing I was covered and it was safe for me to proceed forward based on my conversation with Sam Levine. More than several times, I was told just how good my policy was and "how it was no longer offered." I've had this policy for approximately 10 years and never made any claims of any sort against it. Therefore, Saturday, May 7th, I proceeded forward and called a contractor to come through and take a look at what was going on. Once the contractor arrived, it was almost immediately determined that I had a cracked/ ruptured pipe in the wall in my powder room and we were well underway of mold and mildew spreading throughout the basement because of the moisture buildup. As this pipe continued to leak, it went from bad to worse, because of the moisture, the mold/mildew collected in the drop ceiling, inside and outside the interior existing walls. These panels/walls was a must to come out. Tuesday, May 10th @ 9:55am, I contacted Allstate Insurance to file a claim after my agent gave me the clearance. Again, I spoke with my agent later on that evening @5:24pm for 14 minutes again reiterating my homeowners policy. Again, nothing in our conversations ever indicated I was NOT covered on my policy.

Sam explained to me what I needed to do and to take plenty of pictures since I still had not yet heard back from the adjuster and my deductible is $500.00. He also explained to me that the pipe inside the wall was not going to be covered but the demolition getting to the pipe inside the wall would be, in addition to any drilling that would have to be done through the cement floor in addition to any out of pocket expenses that would be reimbursed minus my deductible as long as I had receipts. I needed to get a contractor into my basement right away so I decided to move forward with the contractor while waiting to hear back from the adjuster. Since I used the basement as my office area, I needed to try and salvage as much as I could since many of the items and materials I worked with had already been destroyed. I had the contractors immediately bring in wet vacs and fans. The smell was horrible throughout the entire house. I had to have them immediately pull up all the carpeting in the basement. I also had the contractors begin demolition of the walls and ceiling tiles because of the mold buildup and mildew from the moisture to the tune of $2000.00 for mold removal and water cleanup. I paid in advance $1500.00 out of pocket which included my deductible of $500.00.

Wednesday morning, May11th, I still had not heard back from the adjuster. Again, I contacted my agent @9:18am and explained everything to him that was going on and to verify what my deductible was. I explained in detail everything that had been done so far along with my out of pocket incurred expenses. I also mentioned that we have plenty of pictures and I was about to upload them to the adjuster and CC him on the email even though I still had not heard anything back from the adjuster. Sam gave me the adjusters email address and told me he would followup with the adjuster himself. He did just that and copied me on the followup email. Within an hour of Sam sending out the email, I received a phone call from the adjuster who told me I was NOT covered for this damage or property loss. I have an HO1 policy. I am mortified and unable to breath after hearing this!

Meanwhile I have the contractors back in my basement working and I am now out of $1500.00 with a $500.00 balance owed. I explained to the adjuster that Sam Levine and I had several phone conversations over the course of a few days and that I had just spoken to Sam within the hour prior to receiving the adjusters call. He seemed surprised that I had just spoken with Sam and that Sam never disclosed the pending denial. I didn't understand the politics of of an HO1 policy and Sam of Davidson Financial over the course of all our conversations regarding this policy, never disclosed this information to me. I had the contractors come to an immediate work stoppage. I was never so humiliated and embarrassed; I immediately called Sam again at 10:11 am wanting him to explain what happened and why he wasn't forthcoming with me on this policy regarding it being an HO1 policy? I asked him how he could allow this to happen and that he was my 1st line of defense and that I trusted him when I needed this policy the most! This is why I contacted him to get clarification of this policy what was covered vs what was not covered and each conversation, I was told that I was in good hands and good standing and that I had a "great" policy. My absolute verification had to be done prior to contractors being hired and monies dispensed. Sam's response to me was "I thought you were covered at first glance". I was done, there was nothing more I could say as I found this professionally unacceptable!! Afterwards, I was told the only thing I am covered for was "fire."

Hurt, embarrassed, humiliated and quickly sinking into depression, I was sickened! I immediately took to my bed for four days trying to figure out what went wrong. Meanwhile, even with the shut off valve cut off, the pipe in the basement continues to leak along with my basement now in complete shambles and no bathroom, ceiling destroyed and many personal item destroyed with no way of replacing them and the mold continues to grow. I really believed I was in great hands. This is why my premiums are paid on time for the past 10 years. Now I do NOT have them when I need them. I have no extra money and a basement that is now in ruins and still a leaky pipe with mold and mildew continuing to harvest.
