I let a Southwestern Bell telephone payment slip (after I changed service to another provider). I was turned into this awful company. Immediately after I found out I was in collections with this company, I called their customer service to pay with my Visa (debit) card over the phone. I was ready to pay the 51.00 I owed.

I was told they would add almost 20.00 extra for processing the payment with a debit/credit card. GIVE ME A BREAK. I am trying to PAY these people and they want to charge me EVEN MORE MONEY than I owe! This type of behavior should be illegal. They can make what ever excuse they want for justifying the fee.. but the fact is the same -- it's not RIGHT!

These people are bad, bad, bad. I feel terrible for the other people that have had to deal with situations much worse than mine. I sent my payment certified for ONLY the amount of the debt. We'll see what the outcome is. Good luck to all that have had nightmares with this HORRIFIC debt collection agency.

Consumers File Complaints Against American Agencies

AUTHOR: David Cyrus - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 05, 2004

Dear Consumers:

The credit industry, including debt collectors, are regulated by federal laws that protect consumers against unfair practices.

These laws include:

federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)
Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA)

These laws were written and passed by your Congress.

If you believe that you have been subjected to unfair collection practices by American Agencies of Torrance, CA, you should file formal complaints.

Where to file:

Federal Trade Commission
Office of the Attorney General (CA)
Senator Dianne Feinstein
Department of Consumer Affairs--LA County
Department of Corporations

There has to be a sufficient volume of complaints against a specific company before any enforcement action will be taken.

This company's corporate license has already been suspended, but apparently it appears to continue to solicit payments for unvalidated debts.

RipOff Report prohibits me from providing my business information. I am a credit consultant that has had experiences with this collector, and many others as well.

I wish you success in your pursuit of fairness in the marketplace. If you have good news to report, please post your story here on RipOff Report.

Sincerely,

Credit Consultant

American Agency Rip-Off... attitude, hatefulness, rudeness, unhelpfulness has made me so mad

AUTHOR: Scott A. Perry - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 14, 2004

Dear Editor,

Iam writing to let you & all other people know
about American Agencies of Torrence, Ca.
I am currently purchasing a home with a lending institution. As my credit was pulled to determine my credit worhtiness, low, and behold , American Agencies shows up as a collector of a debt I supposedly had with Pac-Bell from November of 1997. When I told them that they needed to show me verification of the debt I owed. They said it was my problem, and that I would have to prove my case to them. I did!. I gave them a period of time to respond.

The attitude, hatefulness, rudeness, unhelpfulness has made me so mad. I would like to pursue a class action lawsuit against this company with many different people involved , to show the level of negilgence they have shown.

Please circulate this among other people who would like to get involved. I am seeking justice for all people seeking it. They are screwing with the wrong person. They still have not yet gotten back to me on this matter. I will be writting
to thee Attorney General Of California, BBB,
Consumer Advocate Agency, and the local telivision station , and a lawyer in Torrence, Ca. to pursue retribution for this behaivior.
Thank You again for your website. It's nice to know that people can still make a difference.
Thank you for your time.................

Sincerely,

American Agencies is a Fraudulent Debt Collector, employees are rude, reckless, and abusive

AUTHOR: Cyrus - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 04, 2004

Dear Friends:

American Agencies is a fraudulent debt collection agency located in Torrance, CA.

Based on my experience with them, they typically pursue delinquent accounts from telephone companies.

The federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is federal law that regulates the activities of debt collectors. Debt collectors are required by Section 809(b) of the FDCPA to validate all debts they are attempting to collect. Validation is a process of authenticating that a consumer really owes on the debt.

American Agencies uses abusive, deceptive, and unlawful practices to collect payments from consumers.

Their employees are rude, reckless, and abusive. They do everything possible to harrass. Whatever your situation, DO NOT PAY FOR ANY REASON.

I strongly recommend filing a formal complaint with:

County of Los Angeles--Department of Consumer Affairs
State of California--Office of the Attorney General
Federal Trade Commission
U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein
Better Business Bureau of the Southland

Most of your complaints can be filed online in less than five minutes, with minimal effort.

You can also conduct a business name search of the State of California--Secretary of State website. On my last review, American Agencies corporate license had been suspended.

I am the Executive Director of Epicenter Credit Consultants in Northridge, CA. This is a small business that advocates on behalf of consumers on issues with creditors, debt collectors, and credit reporting agencies (CRAs). I make sure that the rights and interests of consumers are protected.

I had a client some time ago that had an account assigned to AA. It is based on the work of that case that I have volunteered to share insights with my fellow consumers.

Remember, don't pay a dime. If you don't want to talk, terminate the call. You have absolutely no obligation to speak with any debt collector . . . ever.

Be a smart consumer and make good decisions with your money. Kick abusive debt collectors and insensitive, callous corporations to the curb.

Play a role in restoring America back to its former greatness with power going back to its People.

Post your questions below and I will try and respond.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Charges For Credit Card Payment Dont go to AMerican Agencies

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 03, 2004

When you called ready to pay w/your credit card, the reason you were going to be charged a fee was because American Agencies doesnt take any direct payment over the phone. you would actually have to go through western union quick collect to make the payment. American Agencies doesnt want you to give your credit card or checking account numbers because they sometimes have your social security or drivers licence numbers and they dont want to be liable if anything happens. so actually even though it seems like we are just trying to get more money from you we are doing it for your protection. If you dont want to pay the fees you can always send your payment through the mail.
