I received a collections notice in the mail dated April 11, 2010 from American Credit & Collections, LLC. The notice stated that I owed $159.00 to PennFoster, and the debt was sent to ACC for collection.

The debt is valid. I did owe the money, I had just for got to pay the last payment. So, I write a check on April 20, 2010 for $159.00. The exact amount on the notice from ACC.

ACC had called me sometime in between and left a message threatening legal action. So, I had looked them up on this website and saw all the complaints against them. I decided to make a copy of the notice and the check I sent them.

I sent the payment in the mail, but the first week in June I receive a letter dated May 26, 2010 stating that I still owe $20.00. I kept the letter so I could call them to find out why I still owe $20. Then yesterday I go to the post office to find another letter from them saying that I owe $20.

I called a few minutes ago to find out why I still owed $20 when I know I paid them in full on April 20, 2010. A very rude man answered the phone (did not get his name). I explained why I was calling. He stated that the $20 is an oudated collection fee? He says that I will be getting another $10 added on at the end of this month.

So, what I gathered from this call is that there was a $10 fee per month if I didn't pay the bill. Fine, but I got the letter in April and paid the bill off in April so there should not have been and fees to access. I should have been paid up with them right?

Also, shouldn't they have had the fee for April attached with the $159.00 I owed at the time? Why would they bill that seperate.

I am not sure if I should seek legal council or not. I really don't want this $20 or $30 on my credit report, but I am not sure what to do. I don't think this $20 outdated collection fee is warranted.

ACT 80 COLLECTION FEE'S

AUTHOR: Jae Millz - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 17, 2010

People please be aware of ACT 80 COLLECTION FEE'S. By law a consumer is responsible for all fee's associated with collecting debt, including phone calls(someone is paid to call) and letters. I am familiar with ACC. I paid them a bank account i overdrafted 3 years ago. I had no problems with them. As per the law though collection agencies can charge act 80 fee's which can result in a few hundred extra dollars depending on your balance and how long you are unpaid in that said companies office. More time more money.

Don't pay this invented "Fee" if you do they'll keep adding more and more Fees unil they either piss you off or you hire a lawyer.

You paid them and have a copied check, it ends there unless you're stupid enough to pay whatever they say. (Bet they never expected you to keep a copy)

If so, By the way you owe me $2.000, pay now or I'll add $100.00 per minute to the unpaid balance.

Now you owe me $2100.00 and by the time you're through paying it'll be another $500.00, Get the message?

They'll scam you as long as you let them.
