Okay, so my report is not the same as everyone else's. I had always loved American Freight. When they first opened, I bought an entire set for them (this was in '01), and I had no problem with them. However, thereafter, all of my furniture started coming from Ashley. I had paid almost 5,000 for a living room set from them. Before I even paid the bill off, their furniture was falling apart (to their credit, it had been 2 years). Early this year, I made the decision I needed new furniture. I went all over town, and to my surprise everything I saw was extremely over-priced (possibly due to economic hardship). I had two thousand to spend, but this is where I made my mistake. I wanted to save some money, not quality, but I went to the Ocala American Freight store. Oh, Lord. Someone should have stopped me. I picked out a pretty little beige microfiber set, and a set of glass tables. I paid almost a thousand dollars for everything, and had arranged for the furniture to be picked up that day. The guy, the MANAGER...a pudgy little man, told me had I ANY problems with the stuff, they stand behind the furniture. Yeah, okay. About 6 hours later, I get my furniture. It's got a burn hole (obviously somebody was smoking at that store-GROSS!), and a cut UNDER the plastic...meaning it was not caused by the people who picked up the furniture, but rather the people I picked it up from. So, I call them the next day. They say no one is in, they will call me back. I flip the cushion, and put in out of sight. Nothing is heard from them in 2 months. Finally, in late June, I get the manager. He did not even listen to me. He was on the phone making a sale, and just say "yeah, huh-uh" the entire call. He takes my number, and is supposed to call me 15 minutes. I wait 30 minutes then call them. Finally, I know why I have been avoided. When I get some honest person on the line, they tell me I got the LAST and FINAL couch set, and it's on "backorder", and I will get a call when it comes in. WTF?? Why didn't someone just say this?? I hang up the phone, and make a trip down there. I walk around the store, and no couches. I go home and watch 30 more days roll by. Seriously, all I NEED is a CUSHION. NOT a new set, not my money back. In July, it's the same story, but 2 new problems. I have had this furniture for FOUR months, and the tables I bought are "shedding", while the couches are as well. The paint on the tables were not coated with a clear overtop, so the design just wipes off, without any chemicals. I noticed a big patch where there was no paint at all. The "microfiber" is everywhere. I thought my dryer was broken because all of my nice black clothes are coming out snowy. You can not sit on the couches because it gets everywhere, and rubs right off!! It is so nasty and bad that I constantly have to vacuum and dust, and my body feels like it is covered in pet hair. This crap gets in the air. The tables, well they test positve for lead. The paint that is rubbing off is toxic, and my kids are forbidden from the living room until I get this garbage out of my house. As for American Freight, after I mentioned all of this, they won't even speak to me.
