My mother, accompanied by a close family friend, went to Arrowhead Honda to buy a car. She was upset from just having been in an accident, and her friend went to help her find a car and negotiate a price. They found the car and agreed to the price: $10,000. (It is a modest little Hyundai.) After taxes, the total price was a little over $11,000. My mother was prepared to pay $5,000 down and finance the balance.

Once the price was agreed to by everyone, my mother's friend had to leave to attend a meeting, and was assured by the salesperson/sales manager that they would write the paperwork up as agreed and get my mother on her way. Instead, they added on the following charges: 100,000 mile warranty - $2,000; Alarm - $995; Paint and Fabric Sealer - $895; Maintenance Agreement - $225; Theft System - $500; Dealer Document Fee - $369; and Fees to government officials - $185.25.

My mother, who was confused, believed that these were free, so she agreed to everything and signed the paperwork. They took her $5000 down-payment and applied it to all this nonsense (which, conveniently, totaled around $5,000) and they financed the entire price of the car on a 5-year loan for 6.9% interest.

They could see that my 79-year-old mother was in a confused state and completely took advantage of her after her friend was gone. We will pursue any and all avenues until Arrowhead Honda makes this right.

Please warn everyone to stay clear of this dealership.

Notice EXACTLY What This 'Employee' Said!

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

NOT ONCE did this person say "sorry", come back and we'll re-write the contract without the items which were OBVIOUSLY PUT THERE TO SCAM the buyer.  Go ahead and blast me, employee.  I'm so damned sick and tired of you car dealer SLIMEBALLS and your flimsy excuses to justify YOUR FRAUD and YOUR OBVIOUS DECEPTION.  There's no explanation of these charges needed.  If you are so concerned about this, you will offer to re-write the contract WITHOUT your SCAM ITEMS!  Why don't you make that offer?  Once again, you car dealer SCUM got caught in another one of your DECEPTIONS.

The Sleazy American Car Business.  Top heavy with slimeballs and scumbags.  Their STENCH and THEIR SMELL a mainstay of the business!

Sad in Seattle, Take your story to all of your LOCAL NEWS STATIONS immediately and....

AUTHOR: Karl - (USA)

give them all of the details regarding what happened and maybe one of them will EXPOSE the dealership on TV.

That's the best way to potentially get some, or all of the money back.

Most dealerships in the USA 'trick', 'deceive', and 'manipulate' their customers into signing for extended warranties and other 'back-end' products so they can make additional profit.

IMPORTANT: You can always CANCEL an extended warranty and get a good portion of it back if it's done early into the loan. Go into the dealership and demand that the extended warranty is canceled, and get it in writing that it has been done and make sure that YOU receive verification that it has been done.

Notify the bank where the car is being financed immediately of everything you're doing.

Good luck.

P.S. Make sure to visit the TOYOTA page of this site. There are Toyota customers who went through the same thing that your mother went through.

#3 UPDATE Employee

Concerned Daughter was not present for Mother's Vehicle Purchase

AUTHOR: Arrowhead Honda CRM - (United States of America)

Dear Sad Mary in Seattle,

As mentioned in your report your mother did purchase her vehicle for just over $11,000.  The price of the vehicle did not change.  However, once a customer agrees to a purchase price they are also able to opt for additional protection in the business office.  These items are presented to the customer and the customer chooses to either purchase or not to purchase these items.   While there were many items your mother elected, she also made the decision to decline a few as well.  I know it may be hard for someone who was not involved in the transaction to look at her contract and make sense of the numbers without knowing the benefits of the items she did opt to purchase.

Perhaps if you had made an attempt to contact us directly we could have better helped you understand the products and what her options were/are.  I did see that someone encouraged her to cancel her extended warranty as well as her maintenance contract.  So rather than having full vehicle coverage up to 100,000 miles, your mother now only has warranty coverage for another 16,500 miles.

Ill not explain each item here but I invite you to contact me at your convenience so as I may help you understand the benefits and length of coverage of each of these items.

As for Mr. Concerned Consumer in Orlando, not sure where the BBB came in as they were not involved in this cusotmer's transaction, but since you looked it up I think this is worth mentioning.  Arrowhead Honda has the least number of complaints over the past 36 months (in the single digits) as compared to the other 7 Honda dealers in the Phoenix area, some of which are well over 50 complaints for the same time period.  Arrowhead Honda has absolutely earned our rating.

The BBB Helped Them DEFRAUD!

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

This is an A+ BBB "rated" business!  Anybody need any more proof the BBB is a SCAM and the BBB sells PHONEY ACCREDITATIONS to anyone who wants to buy one just like phoney college degrees!

I think you should take this matter up with the BBB but don't be surprised when the BBB plays you for a fool and tells you these slimballs did nothing wrong.  If that happens, I urge you...I URGE YOU to bring in the media. Please, please, please DO NOT DROP THIS!  It is time the slimeballs at the BBB were exposed for their CON-GAME!

Hey BBB...respond!  Tell me how wrong I am.  You don't have the guts!
