The following was based on my personal experience with these companies: I never had remunerated legal representation. Use this information at your own risk.

These companies are to say the least scurrilous. File a report with your state attorney general's office and do it before they take you to court. They cannot "take your case" but they will intervene on your behalf. If it has already gone to court; they can only tag them as fraudulent and watch for futher activity.

When filing your report, just state the facts; don't put your personal feelings into the script. Attach copies of all supporting documentation like threatening letters, etc. They will help you. Ours did. I had detailed documentation about their fraud activity and I also indicated that I had found over 1000 consumer complaints online about them--mostly duping old people and college students. Aspire Visa actually would not close our account at our request, dropped the limit to $0 and then started charging us late fees and overlimit fees.

Get your ducks in a row and report them immediately to your AG office. This is why they are part of our state government. But, they can't crack down on crooks like this if they don't know it is going on. Once these companies were contacted by our state AG office they "went away" and satisified our judgment of over $3000. We didn't pay a dime. Also, go on line and educate yourself about the Fair Debt Collection Act.

I actually found four points they appeared to be violating and called them on it. They bank on the fact that the average citizen has no clue about legal issues and they prey on that. Use these legal tools to your advantage. The information is there; take full advantage of it. Investigate consumer complaints in your state and include them with your documentation. If the AG office sees they are doing harm to their citizens it's their job to crack down on them.

I hope this helps all those that have been screwed by these companies. It was really very disturbing to me that they are preying on starving college students and older folks on fixed incomes...GO GETTEM!
